TAPPS playoffs: Houston St. Thomas edges Liberty Christian on infield RBI hit

WACO — Conor Biggio’s infield hit with two outs and the bases loaded led Houston St. Thomas to a 4-3 eight-inning win over Argyle Liberty Christian in the TAPPS Class 5A baseball semifinals.

Andrew Jones led off the eighth with a walk, and Taylor Craig and Ryan Olive delivered one-out singles to right. Harrison Ayala’s grounder forced out Jones at the plate, but Biggio beat out a dribbler to short for the winning RBI.

Liberty Christian (29-10-2) led 3-0, but St. Thomas (24-12) tied it with three runs in the sixth.

Liberty Christian scored two in the third on Denton Martin’s RBI triple to the right-field corner, followed by Corey Dodd’s single. Jared Cook singled in a run in the fourth.

Bishop Lynch 1, Houston St. Pius X 0: Andy Alig threw a four-hit shutout in the other 5A semifinal. Bishop Lynch scored the game’s only run in the second, when Luke Stephens blasted a two-out double to bring in Lucas Wearden.

Bishop Lynch will face St. Thomas in the championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Waco ISD Stadium. The game was scheduled to be played in Belton but was moved due to wet conditions.

Rockwall Christian 9, Kerrville Our Lady of the Hills 3: Rockwall Christian scored three runs in the fourth on the way to a victory in the 1A/2A semifinals. Colton Jones brought in two runs with a bases-loaded fielder’s choice that put Rockwall Christian ahead, 4-3, and Aaron Eastin drove in another run with a single. Rockwall Christian will meet Shiner St. Paul in Saturday’s 3 p.m. final at the Waco ISD complex.
