Softball player of the week (4/11): Flower Mound Marcus' Danielle Blocker

What she did: On Tuesday, Blocker hit a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to give Flower Mound Marcus, the state’s ninth-ranked 5A team, an 8-7 win over 11-ranked Flower Mound. On Friday, Blocker hit a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to lift Marcus to a 2-1 victory over 25-ranked Plano West. The wins put Marcus alone in second place in District 8-5A, a district that has five teams ranked in the top 25 in the state.

Who is she? A senior left fielder who has signed with Stephen F. Austin.

The stats: She is hitting .402 for the year and .472 in district.

She said it: When asked if she likes hitting with the game on the line, Blocker said “I do. There’s a lot more pressure. You’re under pressure to do good.’’

Coach said it: “Just coming to the plate in those situations with runners on base and getting big hits. She’s done it in the past.’’ — Christy Tumilty, when asked what impressed her most about Blocker’s clutch hitting.

Did you know? Blocker plans to major in psychology or in something in the medical field.
