Softball player of the week (3/28): Wylie's Mary Stephens

What she did: Stephens went 3-for-3 with two home runs and seven RBIs in a 27-6 win over Rockwall-Heath then was 3-for-3 with three doubles and four RBIs in a 15-3 victory against Richardson Pearce. Rockwall-Heath and Pearce made the playoffs in 2010, with Heath reaching the regional quarterfinals.

Who is she? A junior first baseman who has orally committed to Missouri State.

The stats: Stephens is hitting .541 and leads area players in home runs with 13. Wylie (16-9, 5-1 District 10-4A) has played 25 games, and Stephens has 52 RBIs and 35 runs. Seventy percent of her hits have gone for extra bases, as she has 11 doubles and four triples.

She said it: "I did pretty good this summer, but … I haven't really hit how I have this year."
