Highland Park crushes McKinney North, 49-0

McKINNEY - After needing every possession to win its last two games, Highland Park wasted no time putting away McKinney North on Friday in a battle of the top two teams in District 10-4A.

Preston Miller burst up the middle and outran the North secondary for a 70-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, as Highland Park jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead en route to a 49-0 win against the Bulldogs at Ron Poe Stadium.

"We had prepared for their [defensive line] all week," Miller said. "First play opened up, you just bust it."

"We definitely needed one like this," Miller said. "We had fought hard in several games, and we decided we needed to come out strong and get up on top."

Miller, who had 97 of his 108 rushing yards in the first half, wasn't even the Scots' primary contributor, as quarterback Jake Howeth had 130 of his 148 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the first half, including a leaping one-yard touchdown run after taking the handoff from backup quarterback Brady Burgin.

The Scot defense was just as impressive, corralling Devin Smith and the North rushing attack and adding a touchdown of its own with a 31-yard interception return by Jackson Hauser in the second quarter.
