Soccer playoffs: Frisco, Lake Dallas girls; Prosper, Wakeland boys advance
Frisco 3, Prosper 1: Sophomore forward Maddie Barnes scored twice on low, powerful shots as No. 8 Frisco held off 17-4A runner-up Prosper in a 4A Region II bi-district game. Barnes opened the scoring, giving Frisco a one-goal lead at the half, then scored again quickly after the break.
After Prosper (17-5-0) scored off a corner kick to draw within a goal, Frisco (16-4-2) answered in similar fashion, with Kailee Hervey heading in a corner kick.Lake Dallas 5, Aledo 0:
Lake Dallas needed a win in its final game of the season just to make the playoffs. But the fourth-place team from District 11-4A showed its district’s strength, knocking off District 12-4A champ Aledo in a 4A Region I bi-district game.
Cambria Johnson scored twice as four players scored for Lake Dallas. The 11-4A playoff teams — Denton Guyer, Trophy Club Byron Nelson, Birdville and Lake Dallas — went 4-0 against 12-4A in bi-district play.
Prosper 3, Frisco Centennial 1: Fresh off its first district championship and the most wins in school history, Prosper (19-4-0) picked up its first playoff win, beating Frisco Centennial in a 4A Region II bi-district game at Hebron. Zach Reynolds opened the scoring off a corner kick in the 10th minute, and Zach Peterson scored twice off deflections for Prosper.
“Our game plan was to go out as high pressure as we could, and that paid dividends in the first half,” Prosper coach Ryan Rogers said.
Frisco Wakeland 2, McKinney North 0: Junior midfielder Corey Cantor had a goal and an assist, and freshman goalkeeper Ben Hale registered his 12th shutout of the season as Wakeland held off District 17-4A runner-up McKinney North in a 4A Region II bi-district game.
Cantor’s goal came in the third minute off an assist by Tristan Honaker to get Wakeland (14-7-4) off to a fast start.
“It really set the tone early,” Wakeland coach Rusty Oglesby said. “We hit them with that shock factor in the first 15 minutes.”
