Girls state roundup: Brock now one win from record sixth straight title, 1A games set

AUSTIN — Brock moved a step from a record sixth straight girls basketball state championship and ninth overall with a 78-38 win over Franklin in a Class 2A semifinal Friday.

Brock will play Wall in the championship game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lexie Ducat led Brock with 18 points, 12 rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists in 18 minutes. Rachel Williams added 13 points and six rebounds, and Rachel Harrell collected 11 points and nine rebounds.

Brock (35-2) led 67-27 after three quarters, with a 43-9 rebounding edge. The Eagles finished with a 68-19 rebounding advantage.

Kyla Walker led Franklin (30-6) with 17 points.

Wall 59, Hallettsville 44: Six-foot-tall sisters Maddi and Bobbi Chitsey combined for 37 points and 11 rebounds to lead Wall (34-4) past Hallettsville (34-4) in a 2A semifinal.

Junior Bobbi Chitsey led all scorers with 20 points while sophomore sister Maddi added 17 points. Wall outscored Hallettsville 29-18 in the second half.

Nazareth 57, Lipan 41: Rebekah Van Dijk had 21 points and 16 rebounds, and Nazareth won a Class A Division II semifinal and continued its quest for a 19th state championship.

Mackenzie Gerber added 16 points for Nazareth (35-2), which advanced to its first title game since its last championship in 2007. Van Dijk, who is 6-4 and has signed with UT-Arlington, was 8-of-17 shooting.

Calvert 53, Roscoe Highland 45: Jaylonn Walker scored 30 points, hitting six 3-pointers, as Calvert (25-1) won a Class A Division II semifinal. Walker made five 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished just one shy of the state tournament record of seven held by Lincoln's Taylor Morrow and Nazareth's Heidi Ramaekers.
