Girls basketball playoff roundup: McKinney North pummels Mount Pleasant; Flower Mound tops Colleyville Heritage

McKinney North’s full-court press was too much for Mount Pleasant to handle in a Class 4A bidistrict playoff Monday at Wills Point. North forced 21 first-half turnovers en route to a 65-28 victory.

Three North players scored in double figures, including a game-high 16 points from KK Connor.

Chanterria Jackson added 13 points, and Amy Kleynhans scored 10.

Up next for McKinney North is an area playoff against Red Oak in a rematch of last year’s area round.

Flower Mound 60, Colleyville Heritage 51: Sophomore post Lauren Cox dominated on both ends of the floor as Flower Mound raced past Colleyville Heritage in a 5A playoff at Southlake Carroll.

Cox came one block shy of a triple-double, amassing 30 points, 16 rebounds and nine blocks. Jessie Larson added 14 points for Flower Mound (19-11).

Flower Mound advances to face the winner of Tuesday’s match between Killeen Ellison and South Grand Prairie.

Plano West 75, Richardson Berkner 49: Natalie Chou scored a game-high 24 points, and Callie Owens added 18 for No. 8 Plano West on the way to a 5A victory against Richardson Berkner at Richardson Pearce.

Plano West (24-5) led 45-19 at halftime and never looked back. It advances to face Mesquite in the area round.

Jaileen Thomas led Berkner (8-15) with 22 points.

Southlake Carroll 51, Weatherford 30: Standout point guard Kennedy Leonard scored 12 points as No. 4 Southlake Carroll pulled away from Weatherford in a playoff at Saginaw Chisholm Trail.

Madison Drescher added 10 points for Carroll (28-4), which advances to face the winner of Monday’s game between El Paso El Dorado and Midland.

Frisco Centennial 43, Carrollton Newman Smith 32: Jaysa Cooper scored 16 points to pace Frisco Centennial to a victory against No. 5 Carrollton Newman Smith in a 4A playoff at Frisco Lone Star.

Arione Hodges and Cydney Sutherland chipped in eight points each for Centennial.

The win snapped Centennial’s two game losing streak to end the regular season.

Frisco Liberty 53, North Forney 24: Second-ranked Frisco Liberty breezed past North Forney in a playoff at Richardson Berkner.

Bria Frierson led the way 15 with points for Liberty (25-3), Ashlee Fletcher scored 13, and Kayla Mundy added 11.

Alexandria Webb scored seven points to lead North Forney.

Liberty advances to face Lincoln in the area round.

West Mesquite 63, Frisco Heritage 47: Alexus Bertrand scored 28 points for No. 4 West Mesquite in a 4A victory against Frisco Heritage at Garland Naaman Forest.

West Mesquite (25-5) led by five at halftime and outscored Heritage 64-37 in the third quarter to pull away.

Taylor Jackson led Heritage (16-14) with 22 points.

Irving MacArthur 51, Hebron 44: Tory Jacobs scored a game-high 30 points for No. 7 Irving MacArthur in a 5A victory against Hebron.

Irving MacArthur (23-6) advances to face the winner of Tuesday’s match between Duncanville and Killeen Harker Heights.
