Girls basketball playoff roundup: Lewisville stuns 6-5A champ Colleyville Heritage; Duncanville, Plano West dominate
The Lewisville girls basketball team, which slipped into the playoffs with five wins all season, stunned District 6-5A champion Colleyville Heritage, 37-34, in a bi-district playoff at Southlake Carroll.
“We knew we were the underdogs and we knew we’d be underestimated,” Lewisville coach Charlotte Jones said. “We knew we had an opportunity here, and our defense has been looking good.”
Lewisville opened the season with several of its top players injured and lost its first 12 games. After the injuries came a nasty bout with the flu, which affected several players and coaches.
Jones said she didn’t have her whole team together until the final three weeks of the season.
Lewisville (6-24) gave up only 21 points in the final three quarters. TCU signee Jada Butts scored 10 points, and Monisha Neal scored nine to lead the offense.
Heather Roberts led Heritage (25-11) with 14 points.
Lewisville advances to face Mansfield Timberview, the state’s 13th-ranked team, in the area round. Timberview downed Temple, 57-40, in its playoff opener.

Rockwall rallied from an 11-point deficit to tie the game at 58-58. But Kaitlyn Holly buried one of her six 3-pointers to retake the lead and set up Buckner’s free throws.
Holly finished with a team-high 22 points for Naaman Forest, which advances to face Plano West in the area round.
Rockwall, which was the 4A state runner-up last season, finished with a 23-10 record.
Plano East 47, Richardson 46: At The Colony, Letty Bornstad grabbed her own rebound and scored a putback with eight seconds left to lift Plano East over Richardson.
Bornstad finished with a team-high 13 points. Freshman Daria McCutcheon grabbed a steal on Richardson’s final possession to seal the win.
