Girls basketball player of the week (2/11): Mansfield Summit's Keanna Kelly
What she did: Kelly scored 33 points in two wins. Her 13 points Tuesday against Ennis helped Mansfield Summit force a tiebreaker game against Red Oak for second place in District 15-4A. In that game, Kelly led all scorers with 20 points and hit a number of free throws down the stretch to ice the win.
Who is she? A 5-6 junior guard
The stats: Kelly is averaging 11.1 points, 1.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game this season.
She said it: “It was like do or die. My teammates got the ball to me when they knew I was open, so it caused me to hit more shots.”
Coach said it: “Keanna is the type of player that comes to play every day, in practice and in games. As a coach you love coaching those kind of kids. You’re always going to get the same exact Keanna every day.”
Did you know? Kelly tore her ACL a week before the beginning
of after-school practices last season. She sat out the season as Mansfield
Summit went on to win the 4A state championship.
