Girls basketball player of the week (2/4): Garland Naaman Forest's Micayla Buckner
What she did: On Tuesday, Buckner led a comeback over Rowlett, which was previously undefeated in district play. She scored nine of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as Naaman Forest beat Rowlett, 53-48. On Friday, she recorded 20 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in a victory over Garland. The wins left Naaman Forest one game behind District 11-5A leader Rowlett with one game left in the regular season.
Who is she? A 6-3 junior post.
The stats: Buckner is averaging 13.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.4 blocks and 2.0 steals.
She said it: “I just knew that if I didn’t score, we didn’t have a chance, so I had to take over.”
