Duncanville girls set to make long-awaited return to UIL state tournament

Duncanville will make its 21st trip to the UIL girls state tournament, one of four Dallas area schools vying for state titles Thursday through Saturday at Austin’s Erwin Center.

Duncanville (38-1) will face Cy Falls (37-2) in a semifinal at 3:30 p.m. Friday, its first trip to Austin since back-to-back appearances in 2003 and 2004. None of the other 5A semifinalists — Cy Falls, Spring Dekaney (39-1) and San Antonio Reagan (34-4) — have ever advanced past the regional tournament.

In Class 4A, Mansfield Summit (35-3) and Rockwall (33-7) both return to Austin for the first time since winning 5A titles. Summit will face Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill (38-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday, while Rockwall will play Victoria East (40-2) at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Summit is led by N.C. State signee Ashley Eli, who played two minutes in the 2009 tournament when Summit won the 5A title.
