Mesquite girls upset 16th-ranked Skyline, 33-26

GARLAND — Cemetra Jenkins scored a game-high 16 points to lead Mesquite to a 33-26 victory over Skyline — the state’s 15th-ranked Class 5A team — in a second-round playoff game Friday.

Mesquite (23-10), the No. 3 seed from District 11-5A, trailed 25-22 with less than four minutes to play. But Mesquite closed the game on an 11-1 run, with Viershanie Latham and Jenkins each scoring four points in the run.

Mesquite advanced to the 5A Region II quarterfinals to play DeSoto, the state’s 10th-ranked team. In other second-round girls playoff games:
