Carroll girls rally to oust Timberview in OT, 48-46

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS - Southlake Carroll rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to beat Mansfield Timberview, 48-46, in overtime of a Class 5A area round playoff game Friday night.

Carroll senior Sierra Maykus hit a pair of 3-pointers in overtime, and junior post Kate Lewis added a scooping two-pointer as Carroll outscored Timberview, 10-8, in overtime but pulled away early with a 47-42 lead.

Carroll will play Duncanville in the regional quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Worth Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center. Carroll tied the score, 38-38, with 5.9 seconds in regulation on a free throw from heralded freshman starter Kennedy Leonard, who teamed with Maykus to make critical baskets in a second-half rally.

Timberview had taken a 29-18 halftime lead with an aggressive, drive-to-the-basket offense led by guards Lili Thompson, Terriell Bradley and sophomore forward JaLea Bennett. Carroll’s normally strong outside shooting struggled, and Timberview’s 6-2 post Ather Cep blocked and altered shots.
