Corsicana product Louis Vasquez helps Broncos reach Super Bowl
DENVER – In what may be his last season in the NFL, quarterback Peyton Manning booked himself and the Denver Broncos a trip to New Jersey for Super Bowl XLVIII with a 26-16 victory against the New England Patriots at Sports Authority Field on Sunday.
Manning played like the Hall of Famer he is, completing 32 of 43 passes for 400 yards, two touchdowns and a 118.4 passer rating. All the problems that Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s defenses have given Manning over the course of his career were never evident. Manning was efficient and his drives were methodical, even if most ended in field goals.
It will be the third Super Bowl appearance for the 37-year-old Manning, who beat the Bears in 2006 and lost to the New Orleans Saints in 2009 with the Indianapolis Colts.
Former Corsicana offensive lineman Louis Vasquez, who started all 16 games at right guard this season, helped Denver rack up over 500 yards of total offense in the victory.
