QB Desmon White accounts for six TDs as DeSoto rolls over Duncanville to clinch 7-5A playoff spot

DESOTO — Desmon White mixed pinpoint passing with elusive scrambles, accounting for 546 yards and six touchdowns to lead DeSoto to a 55-29 victory over Duncanville on Friday night at Eagle Stadium.

White, who committed to TCU this week, completed 22-of-30 passes for 416 yards and four touchdowns.

White also rushed for 130 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 38 and 6 yards.

DeSoto (8-0, 5-0 in District 7-5A), No. 2 in both SportsDay’s Class 5A area rankings and The Associated Press state poll, scored on nine of 10 possessions during one stretch, including a 99-yard march for its second score of the game.

Even with White sitting out most of the fourth quarter, DeSoto finished with 685 yards of offense and 34 first downs.

Chris Lacy, an Oklahoma State pledge, led the receiving corps with eight catches for 210 yards and three scores. William Jackson contributed a pair of touchdown runs.

Unranked Duncanville (4-4, 2-3) couldn’t keep up the scoring pace and trailed 35-15 at halftime despite gaining 223 yards on offense.

Duncanville managed a 15-yard touchdown run by Roosevelt Richmond and a 19-yard scoring pass from Jeremiah Drake to Xavier Brown in the second quarter. Drake threw for 175 yards.

Derrell Haynes’ 6-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter brought Duncanville to within 35-22. But DeSoto responded with White’s second touchdown pass to Lacy.

Duncanville linebacker Corey Smith raced 28 yards with a fumble return for the team’s final score.

DeSoto qualified for the playoffs for the 18th consecutive time with the win. Coincidently, the Eagles have won 18 straight regular-season games.

DeSoto extended its run of success to seven wins over Duncanville in the last eight meetings.
