Week 5 roundup (5A): Garland wins quadruple OT thriller; North Mesquite still undefeated
Arlington Bowie 69, Fort Worth Paschal 15
FORT WORTH — Tony James rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another and Keaton Perry added two more touchdown passes as Arlington Bowie routed Fort Worth Paschal.
Senior Brican Crossley finished with 103 receiving yards for Bowie (4-1, 2-0 in 3-5A).
Arlington Martin 47, Weatherford 3
WEATHERFORD — Nic Smith rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns as Arlington Martin (4-1, 2-0 3-5A) cruised over Weatherford.
Arlington Martin’s defense held Weatherford to 85 yards of total offense, forced four turnovers and came up with a dozen sacks.
Arlington Lamar 24, Arlington 14
ARLINGTON — Arlington Lamar stayed perfect in District 3-5A play, holding off Arlington at Cravens Field.
Lamar (4-1, 2-0 in 3-5A) used a 10-point third quarter to break up a 14-14 halftime tie, getting a 1-yard scoring plunge from Cameron D. Smith and Ryan Jacobs’ 44-yard field goal to regain the lead.
Raymond Sheard rushed for a game-high 159 yards and a touchdown for Arlington (0-2 in 3-5A, 1-4).
Arlington Sam Houston 21, North Crowley 20
FORT WORTH — Arlington Sam Houston defended a two-point conversion pass attempt in the fourth quarter to defeat North Crowley.
Sam Houston (3-2, 2-0 in 3-5A) was led by running back Daylan Woods who rushed for 167 yards on 16 carries.
Keller Central 23, Keller 20
KELLER — Hunter Morrow connected on a 47-yard field goal with 1:40 left to play as Keller Central (2-3, 1-1 District 4-5A) rallied for a win over Keller (3-2, 0-2).
Morrow made three field goals, with all coming from 40 yards or longer.
K.T. Smeby scored on a 50-yard touchdown for Central with 58 seconds left in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 20-17. Morrow tied the score at 20 early in the fourth with a 40-yard field goal before hitting on his game-winning kick.
Richland 28, Haltom 7
Richland held Haltom to just 103 yards offense in a 4-5A game at the Birdville Fine Arts and Athletics Complex. Quarterback Brandon Maine led Richland (2-3, 1-1) by throwing for 228 yards and two scores.
Irving Nimitz 20, Carrollton R. L. Turner 14
IRVING — Jimmy Clark threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns to lead Irving Nimitz over Carrollton R.L. Turner.
Michael Scott caught two touchdown passes and finished with 115 yards receiving for Nimitz (2-3, 1-1 6-5A).
R.L. Turner (0-5, 0-2) drove deep into Nimitz territory late in the fourth quarter. Nimitz (defense held its ground, stopping R.L. Turner at the Nimitz 1.
Colleyville Heritage 41, Grapevine 7
GRAPEVINE — Jacob Sisk and Ryan Phillippe returned punts for touchdowns in the first quarter at Colleyville Heritage defeated Grapevine in a District 6-5A game.
Jesuit 31, Richardson Berkner 14
Running backs Adam Holtz and Max Loughborough each scored two touchdowns, and Jesuit (2-3, 1-1) pulled away in the third quarter for a District 9-5A victory.\
Richardson 71, Sunset 6
RICHARDSON — Daevon Woods and Tyler Cook each had two rushing touchdowns in the first half, helping Richardson take a 57-point lead into the locker room on the way to a District 9-5A victory.
Richardson Pearce 42, W.T. White 22
ADDISON — Quarterback Hank Hughes threw two touchdown passes to J.R. Griffin, and Gjordan Dumas added a pair of scores as Richardson Pearce (3-2, 2-0) rolled past W.T. White (1-4, 1-1) in a District 9-5A game.
Garland 42, Rowlett 36
GARLAND — Luther Kirk scored a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth overtime, and Garland pulled out a dramatic 42-36 victory over Rowlett on Friday night at Williams Stadium.
Garland (2-3, 2-0 District 11-5A) tied the game in regulation when it capped a 60-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown run by Joshua Jackson. The play came with no time left on the clock, after a penalty negated a sensational tipped touchdown pass.
The teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, and again in the third. Garland sealed the victory when Markeith Miller intercepted a third-down pass from Rowlett (1-4, 0-1) in the fourth overtime.
South Garland 32, North Garland 0
GARLAND — Dezmenn Black and Julius Sedberry combined for 204 yards rushing to lead South Garland to a District 11-5A win.
North Mesquite 31, Tyler Lee 22
TYLER — Quarterback Cody Williams passed for 198 yards and three touchdowns and scored on a 30-yard keeper, helping North Mesquite earn a District 12-5A victory at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
Tyler Lee (3-3, 0-2) trailed 17-3 at halftime but used a 10-yard touchdown run by Juwan Banks and a 3-yard scoring blast from Tavon Wesley to draw within a point early in the fourth quarter.
The kick failed, and North Mesquite (5-0, 1-0) put the game away with two touchdowns.
Mesquite 39, Rockwall-Heath 14
MESQUITE — Mesquite’s defense dominated Rockwall-Heath for three quarters on the way to a District 12-5A victory at Hanby Stadium.
Mesquite (3-3, 1-1) held Rockwall-Heath (4-2, 0-2) to 43 yards until a late outburst.
