4A roundup (Week 3): Lincoln hangs on vs. Madison; Prosper takes down Lake Ridge in shootout
Lincoln grabbed the bragging rights in Saturday's South Dallas Super Bowl against Madison, twice having 21-point leads before holding on for a 35-26 victory at Kincaide Stadium.
For Lincoln (1-2), it was the first win over Madison since 2009 and was also the team's first win of year. The victory was powered by Lincoln's high-octane offense that rolled up 435 total yards.
The game was scoreless after the first quarter, but Lincoln put up three touchdowns in the second quarter to grab a 21-0 halftime lead.
Tailback Mark Johnson scored the first two touchdowns on runs of 13 and 5 yards, with Emanuel Porter snagging a 9-yard scoring pass as time expired in the half.
Porter had a solid game for Lincoln, hauling in six passes and 122 yards with two touchdowns.
Madison (1-3) and Lincoln each posted 14 points in the third quarter, starting with a 77-yard TD kick return by Madison's Kris Mack to open the second half.
Lincoln answered on the ensuing play on a 50-yard scoring run by Derrick Neal (134 total yards) to push its lead to 28-7. Madison's Daniel McCullough and Lincoln's Porter added scores late in the period, as Lincoln took a 35-14 lead to the fourth quarter.
Madison made it interesting in the fourth quarter, as Draylon Jeffery and Trey Gardner both scored to cut the Lincoln lead to nine with six minutes to play. However, Madison got no closer as Lincoln got a crucial defensive stop and then ran out the clock.
Prosper 57, Mansfield Lake Ridge 42
PROSPER — Sophomore Duke Carter’s 256 rushing yards and three touchdowns wasn’t enough for Mansfield Lake Ridge, which fell to Prosper.
Carter scored on runs of 47 and 4 yards, and added a 12-yard reception from Jett Duffey. The pair also connected on a two-point conversion to tie the game at 15 midway through the second quarter. Duffey added 118 rushing yards as Lake Ridge finished the game with 572 total yards of offense.
But Prosper’s Marquez Houston found the end zone three times in the first half: twice on a pair of 1-yard runs and again off a 24-yard pass from Steele Walker. Walker and Chase Dawkins combined to toss for 283 yards and three scores.
Chris Jackson had the play of the game for Prosper, recovering a fumble and running it back for a 93-yard touchdown. He added a 25-yard touchdown grab to finish the night with 187 total yards.
Tyler Webb led Prosper’s defense with a pair of interceptions, including one returned 22 yards for a score. Senior Benjamin Banogu also chipped in with a game-high three sacks.
Princeton 28, Samuell 14
PRINCETON — Princeton came to life in the second half, scoring three times to beat Samuell (0-3).
Princeton (4-0) was led by quarterback Jourdan Blake, who threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns, plus a rushing touchdown. Running back Trey Jackson added 146 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
FW Nolan 41, Spruce 12
FORT WORTH — After scoring two safeties in the first quarter, Fort Worth Nolan (2-2) cruised past Spruce (0-3) at Doskocil Stadium.
Nolan’s Luke Alves finished with 62 yards on two first-quarter rushing attempts, both of them for touchdowns.
Shonathan Sayers led Spruce with 11 carries for 118 yards and one rushing touchdown.
FW Dunbar 49, Birdville 44
DeVonta Kinney hauled in a 30-yard pass from La’Quarrian Peoples with 4 seconds left to give Fort Worth Dunbar a District 6-4A victory over Birdville at Clark Stadium.
In a game that went back and forth all night, Birdville (2-2, 0-2) grabbed a 44-43 lead with 41 seconds left after Xavier Turner scored on a 1-yard run and he then added the two-point conversion.
The teams each scored three times in the fourth quarter after Dunbar (4-0, 2-0) took a 28-27 lead in the third quarter.
Together, the teams amassed 899 yards of total offense.
Bishop Dunne 59, North Dallas 14
Micah Simon threw five touchdown passes and teammate Nick Watkins caught three interceptions to lead Bishop Dunne’s aerial dominance in a rout of North Dallas at Franklin Stadium.
Simon finished 13-of-17 through the air with 281 yards, tossing two touchdowns apiece to Frank Tull and Adrian Miller.
Bishop Dunne (3-1) forced five turnovers, limited North Dallas (2-1) to 68 yards of offense — including negative 53 in the first half — and notched a pair of safeties when the ball was snapped out of the end zone.
Bishop Dunne’s Isaiah Talton rushed 13 times for 69 yards, scoring all three of his touchdowns in the first half. Johnathan Jones, who had North Dallas’ only positive rushes of the first half, finished with 69 yards on 18 carries.
Wilmer-Hutchins 26, Carr. R.L. Turner 13
CARROLLTON — DeAndre Battle threw for a pair of touchdowns and rushed for another as Wilmer-Hutchins (2-2) handed Carrollton R.L. Turner (0-3) a defeat at Standridge Stadium.
The game was scoreless at halftime, but Wilmer-Hutchins found the end zone on three of its first four second-half possessions to break the game open. Battle ran for 125 yards on 23 carries and also threw for 236 yards on 15 of 26 passing.
FW Paschal 52, Sunset 0
Fort Worth Paschal scored on every possession in the first half, en route to a victory over Sunset at Farrington Field.
Paschal’s (3-0) offense gained more than 300 yards in the first half.
Six Paschal rushers helped the team total more than 200 rushing yards, and backup quarterback Gibson Duwe led the passing with more than 100 yards and two scores. For Sunset (0-3), running back Lukasz Mendoza finished with 57 yards on the ground.
