Zero Week 5A roundup: Hebron quick to show big-play form; Plano defense posts shutout; Duncanville notches 70 points
Hebron 37, Abilene 7
ABILENE — Treyvon Hughes rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns, fueling a dominant performance by Hebron in a 37-7 victory over Abilene at Shotwell Stadium on Friday night.
Jamal Adams added 119 yards on just two carries. He had a 71-yard TD ramble on the second play from scrimmage.
Hebron went ahead 13-0 with 2:55 remaining in the first quarter when Cedric Dale returned a punt 77 yards to the end zone.
Hebron marched 93 yards in five plays and went ahead 21-7 with 8:25 remaining in the second quarter, with Hughes scoring on a 30-yard run.
Hughes scored on a 71-yard run on Hebron’s next series to make it 28-7 with 3:27 remaining before half.
Plano 22, Lewisville 0
LEWISVILLE — Sophomore Brandon Stephens rushed for 145 yards on 16 carries to lead a steady ground game that powered Plano to a 22-0 win over Lewisville at Goldsmith Stadium.
Stephens had 116 yards on his first nine carries, including a 58-yard scamper. Junior Mitchell Hansen closed each of his team’s three scoring drives, plowing in for a trio of 1-yard touchdown runs in the first half.
The Wildcats racked up 289 rushing yards on 54 carries.
Duncanville 70, Colleyville Heritage 42
GRAPEVINE — Senior quarterback Jeremiah Drake threw for 435 yards and five touchdowns as Duncanville defeated Colleyville Heritage, 70-42, at Mustang-Panther Stadium.
Devante Smith hauled in 11 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown, and Kevin Bell Jr. caught five passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
Richardson 21, Irving MacArthur 20
IRVING — Michael Curtis connected on a 34-yard touchdown pass to Quintin Vinzant with 15 seconds remaining to lift Richardson to a 21-20 victory over Irving MacArthur at Irving Schools Stadium.
MacArthur built a 14-0 halftime lead on a pair of short touchdown runs by Artiss Henderson.
South Garland 35, Richardson Berkner 7
GARLAND — Running backs Julius Sedberry and Dezmenn Black each ran for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns as South Garland rolled over Richardson Berkner, 35-7, at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.
Black, a senior, was the workhorse with 164 yards on 24 carries. Sedberry, a junior, piled up his 147 yards on only 11 carries, almost all of it in the second half.
Mesquite Horn 55, McKinney Boyd 36
MESQUITE — Destri White threw for 346 yards and five touchdowns to lead Mesquite Horn over McKinney Boyd at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
The first of White’s three second-half touchdown passes was a 61-yarder to Del’Michael High that gave Horn a 28-24 lead with 9:41 left in the third quarter.
St. Joseph (Pa.) 48, Jesuit 27
A pair of long interception returns for touchdowns in the fourth quarter enabled St Joseph (Pa.) to put away a 48-27 win over Jesuit at the latter’s newly renamed Postell Stadium.
Jesuit’s Bo Schneider was 20-for-33 for 206 yards and three touchdowns, all to Kellen McAlone. Adam Holtz led all rushers with 123 yards and scored once.
South Grand Prairie 38, Arlington Lamar 31
ARLINGTON — Junior quarterback Tony Nicholson passed for 157 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 163 yards and another score to lead South Grand Prairie to a 38-31 win over Arlington Lamar at Cravens Field.
Junior Jaelan Austin was on the receiving end of a 35-yard touchdown pass and finished with 104 yards on five catches.
North Mesquite 36, Rowlett 27
MESQUITE — Corey Hunt rushed for 214 yards and three touchdowns to lead North Mesquite over Rowlett, 36-27, at Memorial Stadium.
North Mesquite’s Ta’Varius Luke helped with 126 rushing yards and one TD, while Andrew Jones a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Irving 43, W.T. White 0
ADDISON — Kyandus Hall rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown, and Antonio Franklin added 98 yards rushing and two touchdowns to propel Irving to a 43-0 romp over W.T. White.
Irving racked up 326 yards on the ground, and also enjoyed success passing as quarterback Christian Garcia threw for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Kishion Mitchell caught two touchdown passes.
Hurst L.D.Bell 39, North Crowley 0
BEDFORD — L.D. Bell held North Crowley to minus-19 yards offense in the first half en route to a 39-0 victory at Pennington Field.
Bell’s Daniel Dorsett and Fua Sapoi rushed for two scores apiece.
Richland 46, Weatherford 14
BIRDVILLE -- Stephon Jackson rushed for 136 yards and receiver Adrien Itoka had four big catches for 109 yards to help Richland notch a 46-14 win over Weatherford in zero week.
