Hebron DE Daniel Wise holds SMU scholarship offer but is hopeful Baylor, Oklahoma State get in the mix
Daniel Wise is just waiting for his moment.
The Hebron defensive end received an offer from SMU in mid February and thought he would have added a few more by now. But his recruitment has remained stagnant.
Still, Wise is hopeful things will pick up this spring and hasn’t lost focus on working hard in weight room and on the field.
“I feel like offers will come soon,” he said. “I’ve been really concentrating on improving my speed and quickness because I have goals of helping us go deep in the playoffs and even make it making it to state.”
A three-star Scout.com prospect, Wise knows a strong work ethic will only help his chances of landing a few Big 12 offers before the recruiting process comes to an end. Wise recently moved a few steps closer to his dream by making junior day trips to Baylor and Oklahoma State.
“I’m not sure if Baylor is close to offering, but it was great to go down there and meet with the coaches,” Wise said. “They seem really interested in me. Coach (Chris) Achuff told me to keep working hard. I really like the program and everything I saw was really nice.”
Wise says he feels similarly about Oklahoma State’s stance on extending a scholarship.
“Coach (Jason) Jones says they want to look at me more,” he said. “But I’m very interested in Oklahoma State. I like that all the coaches are concerned about academics first and the well-being of their players. I really enjoyed my visit.”
As far as the only school that has thrown its hat in, Wise wouldn’t mind staying close to home and playing for SMU but doesn’t plan on making a decision until the fall.
“It would be great to stay here and play in front of family and friends,” he said. “I went to their junior day and really liked everything. Coach (Bert) Hill said he really liked me and my work ethic so we’ll see.”
