Texas A&M grad assistant, ex-Southlake Carroll QB Riley Dodge helps Aggies hang onto Kenny Hill
Southlake Carroll quarterback Kenny Hill had been a Texas A&M commitment for months but decided to make sure of his decision after Aggies redshirt freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy and A&M offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury was named head coach at Texas Tech.
Carroll head coach Hal Wasson called several schools to check if they still had an interest in Hill.
“I called Kansas State, Baylor and Missouri,” Wasson said. “And when schools heard Kenny was re-evaluating, others called. I don’t know how you tell Texas, Oregon and Clemson you’re not going to visit, but Kenny just wanted to look at the decision again. I can’t say enough good things about the schools. Baylor’s Art Briles and Phil Montgomery made it a tough decision. But what it came down to is “Why did you pick A&M? It was the school I loved. And that hadn’t changed.”
Hill, a third baseman who plans to play baseball at A&M, said he was convinced by his official visit. Hill spent a lot of time talking with A&M graduate assistant Riley Dodge, a former Carroll quarterback himself.
“We walked around campus and spent most of the time together,” Hill said. “He told how much it was like here with the offense. I’ve known him a long time and that was a big factor.”
