CLASS 5A DIVISION I
Allen vs. Houston Lamar
8 p.m. Saturday (FSSW)
Allen (14-1): RB Marcus Ward ran for 228 yards – his fourth straight game with at least 100 yards – to lead Allen to a 51-36 win over DeSoto, the No. 2 team in USA Today’s national rankings. QB Kyler Murray has accounted for at least three touchdowns in every playoff game.
Houston Lamar (15-0): Lamar is in a state title game for the first time since 1953, when it won the 4A title. DL Zelt Minor and DB Cedric Lancaster, who are committed to SMU, headline a defense that has allowed seven points in each of the last three games. RB Ronnie Wesley ran for 100 yards and a TD in Saturday’s 15-7 win over San Antonio O’Connor.
CLASS 5A DIVISION II
Cedar Hill vs. Katy
4 p.m. Saturday (FSSW)
Cedar Hill (11-4): Bobby Jackson and Laquvionte Gonzalez combined for 287 rushing yards in Saturday’s 31-28 win over Austin Westlake as Cedar Hill won for the 10th time in 11 games. Damion Hobbs has 27 TD passes — 17 to Quincy Adeboyejo.
Katy (15-0): Katy, ranked fourth in the nation by USA Today, had won its playoff games by an average of 53 points before holding off Cibolo Steele, 45-33, on Saturday. Katy reached a state final for the sixth time in 10 years. There are plenty of FBS recruits, with RB Adam Taylor (committed to Nebraska), DL Matt Dimon (Oklahoma), WR/DB Kyle Fulks (Baylor) and DB Isaiah Brown (Tulsa).
CLASS 4A DIVISION I
Denton Guyer vs. Georgetown
Noon Saturday (FSSW)
Guyer (13-2): Guyer ran for 613 yards Friday but still needed an 18-yard touchdown run by Richard Whitaker with 1:14 left to beat Tyler John Tyler, 57-53, and reach a state final for the second time in three years. QB Jerrod Heard, who has committed to Texas, ran for 318 yards and four TDs. Heard, Whitaker and D.J. Breedlove have all run for more than 1,100 yards.
Georgetown (15-0): QB Jake Hubenak (45 TD passes) and 1,000-yard receivers Ryan Bedford and Randy Knightner lead a potent passing attack. RB Tyler Moody ran for 119 yards and three TDs in Saturday’s 42-14 win over Leander Rouse.
CLASS 4A DIVISION II
Lancaster vs. Cedar Park
8 p.m. Friday (FSSW+)
Lancaster (14-1): QB Demarcus Ayers accounted for three TDs in Friday’s double-overtime win over Wichita Falls Rider and has accounted for 40 TDs (22 passing) overall. Daeshon Hall, committed to Washington as a defensive lineman, has four catches — three for TDs. Texas A&M pledge Nick Harvey has 788 yards both rushing and receiving and has scored 17 TDs.
Cedar Park (13-2): Cedar Park has won 13 in a row since starting 0-2. The defense has allowed more than 14 points just twice during the winning streak. Nate Grimm had three TD passes — two to Samuel Brock — in Saturday’s 40-14 win over Manor.
CLASS 2A DIVISION II
Corsicana Mildred vs. East Bernard
8 p.m. Thursday (FSSW)
Mildred (13-1): Mildred will be playing in its first state final. Iowa pledge Nic Shimonek has 33 TD passes and has at least one TD pass in every game. RB Draylon Sterling has run for 1,914 yards and scored 41 touchdowns.
East Bernard (14-0): East Bernard has outscored its playoff foes 169-31 to reach a state final for the first time since 1982. It beat defending state champ Refugio, 54-23. TCU pledge Ty Slanina ran for two TDs in Friday’s 52-8 win vs. Elysian Fields.
