West Mesquite WR Eldridge Massington decommits from USC

West Mesquite wide receiver Eldridge Massington said Tuesday he has decommitted from USC and will reopen his recruitment.

Massington said USC coach Lane Kiffin called him Monday night and informed him that he would not be able to arrive on campus in January. It was a dealbreaker for Massington, who was hoping to get to the campus early and rehab his knee. Massington tore his anterior cruciate ligament last summer.

He informed Kiffin of his decision to decommit Tuesday afternoon.

“I was disappointed,” Massington said. “I had already done a lot of stuff to be able to graduate in December. I need to get somewhere where I can get my knee 100 percent.”

Massington said he doesn’t have any visits planned and doesn’t have any favorites. He said he will go anywhere as long as he can arrive on campus in January to rehab his knee.

Massington had offers to several dozen schools before he committed to USC in May, including Alabama, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Tennessee.
