Rockwall’s Scott Smith resigns, taking another coaching job
Rockwall coach Scott Smith has resigned as Rockwall head coach and Rockwall ISD athletic director.
The district announced the move Wednesday. Smith said he would be moving on to another coaching position but wouldn’t say where at this time.
“Being the athletic director as well as the head football coach at Rockwall, I think that gives you a pretty good gauge to be able to evaluate the head coach at Rockwall,” Smith said. “I’ve been there eight years now, I felt a change there at the head position was important, so I first made that change.”
“Then I had to step back and as an athletic director, look at do I want to just be an athletic director? At this time in my life, I don’t. I still enjoy coaching.”
Rockwall went 2-8 this season.
Smith came to Rockwall as football coach in 2005 and took over the as athletic director in 2009. He went 33-40 in his seven seasons, leading the team to three playoff appearances, never making it past the first round.
Smith said he’s been thinking about the decision for “probably a few years.”
“I just feel like its the right thing to do at this time for the school district as well as myself,” Smith said.
