Week 10 4A HS football roundup: Undefeated Lovejoy wins 13-4A title; Frisco rolls Prosper

FRISCO — Frisco Wakeland grabbed its only lead on Brent Altieri’s 6-yard TD run with 54 seconds remaining, capping off a 12-play, 69-yard drive and giving Wakeland a 34-30 victory over Frisco Liberty on Friday.

Junior running back Tyler Carver was the workhorse on the drive, carrying seven times for 45 yards.

Altieri and Carver each carried the ball 26 times. Altieri ran for 152 yards and two scores, and Carver had 186 yards and one score.

Frisco Liberty (3-7, 1-6) marched to Wakeland’s 36 before Kevin Williams’ interception at the 2 secured the win.

Quarterback Jerrod Heard, a UT commitment, rushed for 196 yards on 10 carries and completed 10 of 16 passes for 131 yards as Denton Guyer rolled.

Heard scored four times, including touchdown runs of 49 and 48 yards, to pace his team to a 35-0 halftime lead.

Guyer (8-2, 7-0), the No. 9 team in The Associated Press state poll, will play Saginaw in the Division I bi-district round on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Justin Northwest. Guyer racked up 564 total yards to Brewer’s 116.

DENTON — Tylor Blake had 154 yards rushing on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns to pace a Trophy Club Byron Nelson offense that amassed 418 yards. Quarterback Blake Clinto added 125 yards passing, completing 10 of 16 passes, including a 24-yard TD pass to Courtney Miles.

Byron Nelson (7-3, 4-3) could have secured a playoff berth had Azle beaten Lake Dallas. With Lake Dallas’ victory, Byron Nelson, Azle and Lake Dallas finished in a three-way tie for District 5-4A’s last two spots. By virtue of the point differential tiebreaker Nelson was the odd team out.

AZLE — Quarterbacks Dominy Marshall, who ran for 101 yards and passed for 80 yards, and Brandon Simpson, who ran for 45 yards and a touchdown, led Lake Dallas to a victory and a playoff berth.

Receiver Bryce Williams also had 47 receiving yards and caught two touchdown passes for Lake Dallas.

PROSPER — Frisco (7-3, 6-1) used its clock-draining running game to hold Prosper (8-2, 5-2) to only seven possessions en route to a win and a share of the District 9-4A title.

Frisco held Prosper to 10 snaps in the first half. Leading the way were Matt Nollman and Ben Cole, who combined for 49 carries. Each had a touchdown, and Cole finished the game with a team-high 186 rushing yards.

Frisco’s longest drive came late in the first quarter when it took possession on its own 6 after a 62-yard punt from Prosper’s Tyler Webb. Frisco then marched 94 yards on 21 plays, capped off by Nollman’s 6-yard TD run. At the end of the march, there was only 4:31 left in the quarter.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Jet Tuma tossed three first-half touchdown passes as Highland Park clinched the outright District 10-4A title.

Highland Park will meet Frisco in the bi-district round of the Class 4A Division I Region II playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Apogee Stadium in Denton.

Highland Park (9-1, 7-0) scored touchdowns on five of its first six possessions and rolled up 530 yards of total offense in its ninth straight win.

FORNEY — A 74-yard interception return for a touchdown by Raul Bustillos completed Carrollton Creekview’s comeback. Creekview scored 27 points in the fourth quarter on touchdowns by Bustillos, Dylan Kittrell, David Blough and Adrian Williams.

Quarterback Armani Watts led North Forney with 273 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

SEAGOVILLE — Carter’s Ja’Corey Wynn scored on a 25-yard pass from Kenneth Spencer in the first possession of overtime to defeat Seagoville.

Carter (8-2,6-1) forced overtime on a 36-yard pass from Spencer to Kenneth Gray with 2:07 left. Spencer had 161 yards on 12-of-22 passing and two touchdowns.

Traevon Payne carried the load for Seagoville (4-6, 3-4), rushing for 65 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns.

ADDISON — Thomas Hughes rushed for three second-half touchdowns as Molina spoiled North Dallas’ hopes for its first playoff berth since 1952.

After trading second-quarter touchdowns, Hughes and Molina seized control in the second half. Hughes scored on runs of 8, 3 and 2 yards, and the Molina defense put the clamps on North Dallas.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Xavier Turner rushed for two touchdowns and 118 yards in the first quarter as Birdville rolled.

Justin Martin passed for three touchdowns and ran for another, all in the first half, as Birdville (10-0, 8-0 in 6-4A) scored 28 points in both the first and second quarters for a 56-0 lead.

Bowman Sells passed for 331 yards and three touchdowns as Lovejoy defeated Wylie East, 58-32, to win the District 13-4A championship.

Lovejoy (10-0, 7-0) built an early lead as Dan Sefcik returned the opening kickoff 74 yards to set up a short scoring run by Zach Saffle.

Wylie East (7-3, 5-2) answered with a quick drive that resulted in a 1-yard scoring run by Jabari Anderson, who finished with 230 yards rushing.

But Lovejoy, which finished the regular season 10-0 for the first time in school history, reeled off 24 straight points to build a 30-7 lead.

Wylie East rallied with a pair of scores, including a 30-yard touchdown pass from Garrett McCain to Marcel Ateman, to pull within 37-22 at halftime.

But Lovejoy extended its lead early in the third quarter when Cullon Oldham-Greene dashed 48 yards for a score, and put the game away on its next possession when Sells found Sefcik for a 79-yard touchdown.

Hillcrest’s offense struggled, averaging just over 3 yards per carry on 52 attempts, and it committed four turnovers.

The closest Hillcrest came to scoring came with less than three minutes to play, but a botched snap led to a 101-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Woodrow Wilson’s Alex Caballero.

Royse City converted three long fourth downs during a 60-yard fourth-quarter drive.

With his team up 14-7, Bausley capped off the opening drive of the second half with a 9-yard touchdown run. He added touchdown runs of 72 and 47 yards later in the quarter as Red Oak scored 28 unanswered points.

Kelton Moore, who rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown, led Arlington Seguin (3-7, 2-5).

Demarcus Ayers scored three touchdowns and threw for another as Lancaster (9-1, 6-1, District 15-4A) used a strong second half to beat Mansfield Summit (3-7, 3-4).

The Lancaster defense shut out Summit in the second half, forcing three turnovers. Dakota Austin and Kamrhon Dupas each intercepted a pass, while Aaron Johnson recovered a fumble.

Marcus Jameson led Summit with 92 yards rushing.
