SPC championships: Fort Worth All Saints finishes perfect season with small school football title

Offense rolls easily behind Sawyer’s six touchdown passes

BEDFORD — Foster Sawyer passed for 454 yards and six touchdowns, and he also caught a TD pass as Fort Worth All Saints capped a perfect season by beating Houston St. John’s, 60-50, in the Southwest Preparatory Conference’s small-school football championship game Saturday at Pennington Field.

All Saints (11-0) scored touchdowns on six of its eight first-half possessions. Sawyer completed 11 of 12 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter as All Saints built a 28-0 lead.

All Saints lined up for a 43-yard field goal at the end of its first drive of the second quarter. But holder Jake Johnson passed to an uncovered Sawyer for a 26-yard score to make it 35-0. After St. John’s got its first points of the second quarter on Nathan Avery’s 37-yard TD run, Sawyer capped a six-play scoring drive with a 30-yard scoring pass to Charlie Reid to make it 41-7.

All Saints finished with 562 total yards. Sawyer completed 25 of 30 passes, Reid caught eight passes for 181 yards and three scores, and Johnson added 10 receptions for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

St. John’s rushed 58 times for 457 yards. It did not complete a pass.

Cross country

Hockaday’s Jackie Choucair won the girls individual title, running the three-mile course in 18:30.18 at Fort Worth Trinity Valley. Choucair easily outdistanced second-place finisher Lexie Ammons of Houston Kinkaid, who ran 18:50.16.

Sparked by Choucair and third-place finisher Lexie Hood, Hockaday narrowly missed winning the team title. It finished tied with Houston St. John’s with 76 points, but St. John’s claimed the championship because its sixth runner finished ahead of Hockaday’s sixth runner.

On the boys side, St. Mark’s was third as a team, finishing 24 points behind champion Austin St. Andrew’s. Ryan Duffy of Greenhill finished eighth with a time of 16:29.38.

Field hockey

Houston St. John’s won its second consecutive Division I championship, beating Hockaday, 3-1, in the final at Fort Worth Country Day.

Hockaday jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 18:16 left in the first half, but St. John’s scored three times before halftime.

Volleyball

Austin St. Stephen’s claimed its third consecutive tournament title, beating Greenhill, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, in the Division I girls championship match at Fort Worth All Saints.

Emily Patrick and Brittany Adams combined for 32 kills and four aces for St. Stephen’s. Melanie Andrews led Greenhill (24-10) with nine kills and three blocks, and Racheal Sklar registered six blocks.

St. Mark’s won the boys championship, sweeping Greenhill in three games.
