TDs on 6-straight possessions propel Sachse past Garland Naaman Forest, into playoffs
Quarterback’s 3 TDs rushing, 2 passing end Naaman Forest’s hopes
GARLAND — Sachse started slowly but quickly got up to full speed in a 56-21 win over Garland Naaman Forest to clinch a playoff berth Friday night.
Naaman Forest scored on the first play from scrimmage, then forced Sachse to punt on its first possession.
But it was all Sachse after that. Sachse (8-2, 4-2 in District 11-5A) scored touchdowns on its next six possessions, plus a touchdown on a blocked punt, for a 49-7 lead at halftime.
Sachse clinched the Division I runner-up berth out of 11-5A and will face District 12-5A champion Mesquite in the bi-district playoffs.
Naaman Forest (2-8, 2-4) could have made the playoffs with a win over Sachse, and early in the contest, that looked like a possibility.
On the first offensive play of the game, Branson Ball caught a short sideline pass from Juwan Saddler and sprinted 75 yards for a touchdown.
Sachse was then forced to punt and Naaman Forest’s 7-0 lead stood up until midway through the first quarter.
On Sachse’s second possession, Devine Ozigbo scored on a 23-yard pitch to make it 7-7 with six minutes left in the first quarter. Then Sachse quarterback Kent Myers scored the first of his three rushing touchdowns on an 8-yard carry for a 14-7 lead.
Sachse’s Marcus Hubbard blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown for a 21-7 lead, then Naaman Forest fumbled on its next play.
Myers threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to James Mayden on the first play of the second quarter for a 28-7 Sachse lead.
Another blocked punt late in the second quarter set up Myers’ second touchdown pass, this time on a 4-yard fade to Austin Williams, for a 42-7 lead.
Myers scored from 11 yards out on an option keeper to give Sachse a 49-7 lead with 1:30 to play in the half.
