Forney clinches playoff berth behind 3 Jack King TD passes

CARROLLTON — Jack King threw for three touchdowns and Darris Jenkins rushed for 215 yards and a touchdown Thursday night as Forney (5-5, District 10-4A) clinched its first playoff berth since 2009 with a 38-6 win over Carrollton Newman Smith at Standridge Stadium.

Forney took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a 23-yard field goal by Clay Collins and would never trail. A 12-yard run by A.J. Atnip in the second quarter gave Forney a 10-0 halftime lead.

Newman Smith (4-6, 2-5) got on the board with 1:50 left in the third when Cole Brewer hit Zach Rasmussen for a 5-yard pass to make it 24-6. But Forney came back with a 15-yard run by Jenkins and a 10-yard pass from King to Lane Johnson.
