Denton Guyer moves to 3-0 in district play

Jerrod Heard rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 152 yards and two more TDs as Denton Guyer (4-2, 3-0) rolled to a 53-28 District 5-4A victory over Trophy Club Byron Nelson at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex on Thursday night.

Guyer (4-2, 3-0) finished with 561 yards of offense. Richard Whitaker added 77 yards on 13 carries and had scoring runs of 1, 10, 9 and 5 yards.

Byron Nelson (4-2, 1-2) hurt itself with mistakes, including two safeties, but didn’t go down easily, racking up 398 yards of offense. Tylor Blake rushed for 199 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 1, 25 and 21 yards.

Blake Clinton got Byron Nelson on the board on a 2-yard run. But Byron Nelson didn’t score again until Blake’s run with 2:17 left in the half.

The dagger came when Heard hit Whitaker on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 32 seconds left in the half.

Fort Worth Paschal

FORT WORTH — Kyle Hicks rolled up 280 total yards and accounted for five touchdowns to help Arlington Martin prevail over Fort Worth Paschal at Farrington Field.

Hicks got the scoring started early for Martin (4-2, 3-0), romping in from 8 yards on the team’s first possession for a 7-0 lead.

Paschal (1-5, 0-3) narrowed the gap to 7-6 before Hicks orchestrated another scoring drive on Martin’s second possession, resulting in Nick Smith’s 11-yard run for a 14-6 lead.

Hicks found Skylar Tardy for a 30-yard touchdown connection to push the lead to 21-9 as the first quarter ended.

An interception set up another Hicks touchdown run for a 28-9 lead early in the second quarter.

Irving Nimitz

IRVING — Euless Trinity scored on eight of 10 possessions and rolled up 410 yards in total offense in routing Irving Nimitz at Irving Schools Stadium.

Six players scored touchdowns for Trinity (4-2, 3-0 in District 6-5A), including a pair by Homer Babcock. Isaac Ellsworth added a touchdown and 135 yards on 13 carries, leading a 319-yard Trinity rushing attack.

Trinity scored 27 points in the first quarter, aided by a lost fumble and a short punt. So lopsided was the field position that Trinity snapped the ball from its own side of midfield only once in the first half — an 18-yard pass from Matt Hawkins to Babcock from the Trinity 35-yard-line on the game’s first play.

Nimitz (2-4, 1-2) could muster only three first downs and 21 yards total offense.

Keller Fossil Ridge

KELLER — Dalton Mills ran for 141 yards on 26 carries and threw a touchdown pass as Keller (1-5, 1-2 in District 4-5A) picked up its first win of the season, beating Keller Fossil Ridge (1-5, 1-2).

Mills ran for a 3-yard touchdown to open the scoring late in the first quarter. Keller led 7-0 at the half and then stretched its lead to 14-0 on Gabe Martinez’s 42-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Martin on the opening drive of the third.

Fossil Ridge pulled within seven after Jacob Gnacinski found Niron Field over the middle for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 3:44 to play in the third.

Keller answered with a 75-yard scoring drive capped by Mills’ 14-yard touchdown pass to Martin. Christian Perkins added a 34-yard field goal in the fourth.

GARLAND — Mark Johnson rushed for 70 yards and three touchdowns — all in the first half — to help Garland Naaman Forest defeat North Garland at Williams Stadium.

Naaman Forest (1-5, 1-1 in District 11-5A) got a strong effort from quarterback Justin Walker, who completed 12-of-17 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown and added 58 yards on six carries.

North Garland (1-6, 0-3) turned the ball over on its first two possessions, on an interception and a fumble. Naaman Forest converted both into Johnson touchdown runs, charging to a 14-0 lead with 1:26 left in the first.

A 29-yard TD pass from Walker to Branson Ball pushed the Naaman Forest advantage to 21-0.

FORT WORTH — Junior running back Xavier Turner rushed for four touchdowns as Birdville crushed Fort Worth Eastern Hills at Clark Stadium.

Birdville raced to a 41-0 halftime lead en route to outgaining Eastern Hills 383-115.

Birdville senior quarterback Justin Martin threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns.

Birdville’s defense contributed as junior linebacker Quan Walter returned an interception 29 yards.
