Which schools will pack in the most fans at the UIL football championships
Now we finally know, oficially, that Cowboys Stadium will be the host of this year’s UIL championship football games.
The games the last two seasons drew large crowds, with a combined attendance of more than 101,000 for the final day of 2010 and 2011. But I always thought the crowds could be even bigger — if certain teams were involved.
Teams with huge followings.
Locally, that would include teams such as Allen, Southlake Carroll and Euless Trinity. But I think any team from the Dallas-Fort Worth area will bring a big load of fans to Cowboys Stadium. There will also be a lot of local fans who will attend the games regardless of the teams involved.
What will really maximize the crowd, I think, are the championship teams from other parts of the state. Katy, which has a tremendous football tradition and a huge fan base that will travel across the state to see the team, would be a huge draw. Katy is No. 1 in the 5A state rankings and could end up in the 5A Division I or II bracket.
Some other schools from around the state with huge followings that could help fill up Cowboys Stadium on the last weekend before Christmas:
Galena Park North Shore
Currently No. 7 in the state rankings and headed for the 5A Division I bracket
Currently No. 5 in the state rankings and headed for the 5A Division II bracket
Currently No. 9 in the state rankings and headed for the 5A Division II bracket
Currently No. 1 in the 4A state rankings and headed for 4A Division I
Tyler John Tyler
Currently No. 4 in the 4A state rankings and headed for 4A Division II
There are others, too, of course. But these are teams that quickly come to mind.
