Week 2 5A, 4A HS football roundup: McKinney's surge continues; Marcus falls; Martin survives scare

IRVING — Receiver TV Williams had nine receptions for 139 yards with three touchdowns for McKinney, which improved to 3-0 after an 0-10 season last season.

Quarterback Robert Somborn threw for 294 yards and five touchdowns.

Kenneth Carpenter ran for 119 yards and a touchdown for Irving Nimitz.

Denton Guyer

FM Marcus

FLOWER MOUND — D.J. Breedlove, Richard Whitaker and Jerrod Heard combined for 322 yards and two touchdowns rushing as Denton Guyer defeated winless Flower Mound Marcus.

Breedlove led all rushers with 119 yards on 15 carries. Whitaker had 111 yards on 18 carries, including the game-clinching touchdown on a one-yard run with 8:24 to play.

North Garland


North Garland pounded out 356 yards rushing to defeat Hillcrest.

Aaron Johnson rushed for 230 yards for North Garland and George Perry and Chad Wesley combined for three rushing scores.

Hillcrest rushed for 198 yards and was led by sophomore quarterback Arico Evans with 87 yards.

Frisco Wakeland

Rich. Pearce

RICHARDSON — Jackson Lamb passed for 448 yards and three scores to lead Frisco Wakeland over Richardson Pearce (0-2).

Lamb connected with seven different receivers. Senior Turner Smiley led the team with 151 receiving yards, while senior Jonathan Weisheit paced the Wolverines with nine receptions.

J.R. Griffin paired a 17-yard touchdown catch with a five-yard rushing score to lead Pearce.

North Dallas


Justin Townsend scored three touchdowns to lead North Dallas over Sunset.

John Jones rushed for a team-best 154 yards for North Dallas.

Sunset’s Lamont Clark returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown, but it was all North Dallas from there.

Arl. Martin

S. Grand Prairie

ARLINGTON — Ben Grogan kicked a 23-yard field goal in the third overtime to give Arlington Martin a win over South Grand Prairie.

In a game which featured limited offense, the score was tied 7-7 at the end of regulation.

Kyle Hicks scored touchdowns in each of the first two overtime periods for Arlington Martin (1-2). He finished with 82 yards on the ground.

Myles Garrett played a key role for the defense, making a key interception which led to a score for Martin, as well as a sack which halted South Grand Prairie’s (1-2) final drive.


Mans. Summit

MANSFIELD — Running back Kenneth Burks rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns as Mansfield (2-1) shredded rival Mansfield Summit (0-3).


Mans. Timberview

MANSFIELD — Arlington recovered two fumbles deep in Mansfield Timberview territory and turned both into touchdowns in a nondistrict victory at R.L. Anderson Stadium.

Isaiah Baker caught a pair of touchdown passes from Connor Huffman.

Waco Midway

North Crowley

WACO — Gary Goode returned the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to lead Waco Midway over North Crowley.

Irving MacArthur


HALTOM — In the winning drive, Sebastian Taylor completed two passes for 40 yards and ran a fake hand-off 18 yards for the winning touchdown with 1:34 remaining in a penalty-filled victory for MacArthur over Haltom.

MacArthur’s Jourdan McNeill rushed 28 times for 164 yards.

The teams combined for 28 penalties for 268 yards and the game included a delay of over 20 minutes for an official’s discussion.



LEWISVILLE — Deandre Brown scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to lead Lewisville over Irving, giving Lewisville head coach Gregg Miller his first win at the school.

Brown scored on two 44-yard runs in the fourth quarter. The second, with only 1:43 left, put the game out of reach.

Brown finished with 105 yards — all in the second half. Ahkeel Guy rushed for 95 yards and another score for Lewisville (1-2).

Irving (0-3) was led by running back Jacobi Perry, who rushed for 77 yards.
