Plano East's power run game behind Lionel Wills, Ricky Ilodianya fuels rout of Richardson Berkner
Plano East’s power rushing attack ran away from Richardson Berkner, 62-28, in a nondistrict game Friday at Wildcat-Ram Stadium.
Plano East, ranked No. 16 in the area 5A poll, scored 60 points for the second week in a row to improve to 3-0.
Lionel Wills led Plano East with 153 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, most of them in the second half. Ricky Ilodianya rushed for 105 and two scores on 10 first-half carries.
In all, Plano East averaged nearly 12 yards a carry while rushing for 363 yards on 31 carries.
Berkner (1-2) struggled to keep up after starting quarterback Yedidiah Louis left the game late in the first quarter with an injury.
Louis scored Berkner’s first touchdown with a 59-yard run and was 8-of-9 passing for 61 yards before going down. He stood on the sideline in the second half with a walking boot on his left leg.
Calvin Jones took over for Louis in a first-and-goal situation and scored from a yard out for a 14-10 Berkner lead with 1:34 left in the quarter. Jones had a 79-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and finished with 137 yards on 21 carries.
Plano East scored 28 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 38-14 lead into halftime.
Ilodianya scored from two yards out to reclaim the lead for Plano East, 17-14. Ilodianya then caught an 18-yard touchdown from Mario Smalls to extend the lead to 23-14.
Smalls then made a dazzling scramble to fire a 26-yard touchdown pass to Collin Shaw.
Just before halftime, Ilodianya carried over from eight yards out for his third touchdown of the half and a 38-14 lead.
Plano East scored on the first possession of the second half with Smalls throwing 11 yards to Brooks Roberts.
