Mansfield assistant athletic director Kirk Thor was announced by the Mansfield ISD school board Tuesday night as the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Mansfield Lake Ridge, a new high school opening in August 2012.
For Thor, it is a return to the fold as a Mansfield ISD coach; at the end of the 2007 football season, he stepped down from Mansfield High School's post to move into administration.
Thor came to Mansfield in 2004 from Houston Christian -- where he was 16-26 in four seasons. In his four seasons at the helm in Mansfield, he went 20-21, taking the Tigers to the playoffs in 2007 with a 8-3 season. It was Mansfield's first playoff appearance since 2000.
Lake Ridge -- in the southeast part of Mansfield -- will start varsity play in all sports as a Class 4A school, with grades 9 through 12 on campus.
