Argyle kicker Cole Hedlund breaks state record for FGs in a season

Argyle sophomore kicker Cole Hedlund has broken the state record for field goals made in a season with 21, one more than Boerne’s Hunter Lawrence in 2004.

Hedlund made field goals of 27, 39 and 32 yards in Friday’s 51-35 win over Gilmer in the Class 3A Division II Region II final. Hedlund has made eight field goals in the last three games, including a 42-yarder against Prosper.

Hedlund took over as Argyle’s kicker this season, replacing his brother Chad, a first-team all-state last season and is now at Wake Forest. Argyle (13-1) plays Monahans (12-2) in a state semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Abilene Wylie.
