Saturday's playoff roundup: TDs propel Frisco past Lincoln, 56-20

Frisco's Harris runs for 105 yards; QB Allen goes 8-for-8 with 2 TDs

MESQUITE — Carlos Harris rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown and Frisco took off for 21 points in the third quarter of a 56-20 Class 4A Division II area-round victory over Lincoln on Saturday.

Frisco (10-2), which will face Kilgore in the regional semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday in Forney, scored on its first three possessions of the second half to put what had been a close game out of reach.

That included touchdown runs of 1 yard by Ben Cole and 3 yards by Jordan Daniels sandwiched around a 25-yard touchdown pass from Eric Allen to Dee Fields.

Allen was a perfect 8-for-8 for 138 yards and two touchdowns before giving way to back-up quarterback Noah Montgomery in the fourth quarter.

Harris had 86 yards and a touchdown in the first half as Frisco took a 21-14 lead to the locker room.

That included five rushes for 50 yards — one of them a 19-yard scoring run — on a six-play drive that tied the score at 14 with 8:59 left in the second quarter.

Harris also made a shoe-top catch of an Allen pass for a 25-yard gain and a 12-yard run to the Lincoln 6 that led to the go-ahead score, a touchdown run by Derek Deiter just 1:59 before the half.

Deiter’s touchdown was Frisco’s third “score” on the drive but the only one that counted.

Harris returned a Lincoln punt 50 yards for an apparent touchdown only to have it called back for holding. Then Allen connected with Fields for a 56-yard score that was wiped out by an offensive pass interference call away from the play.

Erick Neal passed for 300 yards and three touchdowns to lead Lincoln (6-6), which was its own worst enemy with five turnovers — including a fumbled punt inside its own 10 — and 11 penalties for 91 yards.

Mansfield 48, Denton Guyer 24

ARLINGTON — In a game featuring a bevy of big plays, Mansfield’s defense was the deciding factor in a 48-24 win over Denton Guyer on Saturday night at Cowboys Stadium.

Mansfield (11-1) held Guyer (8-4) to 288 yards — 163 of them on two plays — and produced a handful of sacks in the Class 5A Division II area-round game.

Mansfield advances to meet Abilene next Saturday at Abilene’s Shotwell Stadium.

Kenneth Burks spearheaded the Mansfield offense by rushing for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Lance Evans led Mansfield’s receivers with three catches for 117 yards and a touchdowns.

The big plays started when Lance Evans hauled in a deep sideline pass from Jerod Evans for a 97-yard score. The touchdown gave Mansfield a 14-0 lead with 9:40 to play in the second quarter.

Guyer answered with its own long-range strike: a 95-yard touchdown run by Sebastain Williams to cut Guyer’s lead in half. A 38-yard field goal by Josh King trimmed the lead to 14-10 just before halftime.

Mansfield pulled away with a 20-point third quarter as the big plays continued to pile up.

A 35-yard interception return by Moufadhil Adebo gave Mansfield a 27-10 lead with 7:11 left in the third quarter.

Then a 60-yard touchdown run by Jerod Evans stretched Mansfield’s lead to 34-10 with three minutes left in the third.

Denton Ryan 38, El Paso Andress 14

MIDLAND — Denton Ryan used stifling defense in the first half Saturday to build a comfortable lead in cruising past El Paso Andress, 38-14, in a Class 4A Division I Region I area-round playoff game.

Ryan (12-0) opened the game with a 17-play, 88-yard drive, capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by Jordan Richmond.

After recovering an onside kick, Ryan jumped out to a 14-0 lead on Mitchell Bridges’ 1-yard run. Ryan needed only five plays to march 40 yards for the score. Bridges, who is the short-yardage quarterback, had TD runs of 1, 1 and 2 yards.

Ryan led 21-0 on Bridges’ second touchdown run of the afternoon. Leading 31-0 at the half, Ryan got another turnover to open the second half and scored on Kevin Carpenter’s 32-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Gray for a 38-0 lead.

Denton Ryan faces Waco Midway in Mansfield on Friday at 1 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s playoff game.

Longview 59, Sachse 35

Deontre’ Wilson’s three touchdowns and 106 total yards carried Longview (11-1) past Sachse (8-4) in the 5A Division II area-round playoffs.

The win was Longview’s ninth straight.

Longview led, 38-14, at the half.

Longview’s J’haston Faggans had a 60-yard touchdown run with 2:18 remaining in the fourth quarter. He rushed for 212 yards on 20 carries.

Sachse’s no-huddle offense put together a handful of scoring drives with receiving touchdowns by Jeff Guckenberg, Chris Robb and Brandon Durr. Trent White passed for 340 yards and three touchdowns.

Longview will play DeKaney in the Region II semifinals at Corsicana.

Fort Worth Nolan 53, Houston St. Pius 38

CHINA SPRING, Texas — Joseph Prud’homme rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown and threw two touchdown passes, and Daniel Walker scored on interception and punt returns for Fort Worth Nolan in a TAPPS Division I quarterfinal.

Nolan (11-1) will meet Houston St. Thomas in a semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday at Temple.

Walker’s 59-yard punt return for a touchdown gave Nolan a 45-26 lead with 6:37 left in the fourth quarter. David Authier’s second touchdown of the game — a 7-yard run — put the game out of reach at 53-32.

Houston St. Pius junior quarterback Kohl Stewart, a Texas A&M commit, passed for 458 yards and six touchdowns.

Prestonwood Christian 43, San Antonio Holy Cross 13

Grayson Warren rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns as Prestonwood Christian Academy won the TAPPS Division I regional title for the third consecutive year.

Senior quarterback Parker Ash was 16-of-25 passing for 190 yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to 6-9 receiver Zach Peters. Peters finished with seven catches for 64 yards.

Tyler Cardenas led San Antonio Holy Cross with 147 yards rushing.

Bullard Brook Hill 48, Carrollton Prince of Peace 7

FORNEY — Will Weathers passed for 198 yards and three touchdowns as Bullard Brook Hill rang up 464 yards of offense in a TAPPS Division III playoff game.

Brook Hill rushed for 247 yards on 44 carries. Gunnar Dorsey rushed for 114 yards and scored two first-quarter touchdowns covering 23 and 12 yards. Weathers connected with Jared Dickey for a pair of second-quarter touchdowns covering 32 and 13 yards.

Prince of Peace (9-3), which averaged 323.7 rushing yards and 40.5 points per game, was held to just 53 yards on the ground and five first downs while turning the ball over four times.

Beaumont Kelly 35, TCA-Addison 33

PALESTINE — Brandtley Wilson scored from 1-yard out with 17 seconds left to lead Beaumont Kelly over TCA-Addison in a TAPPS Division I quarterfinal.

Beaumont Kelly (9-3) plays Prestonwood Christian next week at a time and place to be determined.

William Lighty caught three touchdown passes, two in the second half when Beaumont Kelly outscored TCA Addison, 28-6. Dillon Guidroz rushed for 172 yards on 23 carries to lead Beaumont Kelly.

TCA-Addison (6-6) was led by quarterback Daniel Davidson who passed for 297 yards. Wide receiver Nick Plumlee caught 11 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.

Tomball Concordia 41, Dallas Christian 28

GEORGETOWN — Tomball Concordia Christian (13-0) rushed for 352 yards to defeat Dallas Christian (7-4) in the TAPPS Division II quarterfinals.

Chance Gray led Tomball Concordia Christian with 192 yards on 22 carries.

Dallas Christian’s Alex Craig passed for 362 yards and four touchdowns, including a 61-yard scoring pass to Justis Nelson in the first half.

D’Andre Cannon, who entered the game with 2,002 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns, was held to 24 yards on 10 carries.

Bryan Brazos Christian 45, McKinney Christian 6

TEMPLE — Brazos Christian (11-1) took five plays and Jaxton McNair’s 23-yard touchdown run to score on the opening drive.

McNair rushed for 93 yards and another score, and Brad Brown added two touchdowns and 105 yards rushing.

Trent Stinchcomb had four receptions for 78 yards for McKinney Christian (6-6).

Rowlett 48, Copperas Cove 38

ARLINGTON — Rowlett outlasted Copperas Cove in a shootout Friday night at Cowboys Stadium.

Rowlett (8-4) was clinging to a seven-point lead and facing fourth-and-4 with 2:54 left when Corey Chappell gained 39 yards on a reverse to the Copperas Cove 10. Four plays later, Nick Bruno kicked a 23-yard field goal to give Rowlett a two-score lead with 1:27 left.

The teams combined for 982 yards of offense in the Class 5A Division II area-round game.

Shiner St. Paul 72, Garland Christian 63

GEORGETOWN — Bo Hodges ran for 110 yards and five touchdowns as Shiner St. Paul (10-2) beat Garland Christian (10-2) in a TAPPS Division IV quarterfinal.

Garland Christian quarterback Hayden Burnett rushed for 265 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 483 yards and four scores. Zev Bailey had 228 receiving yards on nine catches.
