GARLAND — There’s no such thing as having too many offensive weapons. On Friday, Rockwall-Heath used its Class 4A Division I, Region II playoff game to showcase the depth of its arsenal.
Whether it was freshman running back Rico Henderson or wide receivers Amaris Fields and Shyon Motlagh, Heath found success, easily blowing past Dallas Kimball, 38-6, at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.
Henderson and Fields set the tone in the first half, combining for 186 yards of offense and three scores as Heath (11-1) took a 28-6 lead into halftime.
Henderson did most of the dirty work inside the tackles, finishing with 84 yards and two touchdowns.
“He doesn’t outrun a lot of people, but I’ve never seen a kid with that kind of instinct,” Heath coach Mickey Moss said. “Such a natural running back. He’s going to be a great one.”
Fields did all of his damage on only two touches, one of which was a 65-yard score on a reverse, a play that allowed the senior to show his superior speed.
“He just made an incredible play,” Moss said of the reverse, a play he admitted was not typical for his team.
Like Fields, Motlagh only needed a pair of touches to make a significant impact. The junior caught two passes and turned them both into touchdowns.
After falling behind by multiple scores in the second quarter, Kimball (9-3) just didn’t have an offense capable of getting back in the game. Whether it was rotating quarterbacks or attempting fake punts, nothing seemed to work.
Heath advances to face Sherman next Saturday at Fouts Field in Denton.
