Keller Fossil Ridge nabs playoff berth with 38-10 win over Keller
Fossil Ridge pulls away as defense closes down Keller passing attack
KELLER — In a must-win game for Keller Fossil Ridge, the Panthers pulled ahead in the second half to win, 38-10, and clinch one of two remaining 7-5A playoff spots.
Two third-quarter touchdowns, on a 13-yard Adonis Ramos reception and an 8-yard rush by quarterback Sheldon Neuse, broke the game open for Fossil Ridge, which held the Indians to 211 yards of offense.
The teams started off relatively well-matched, and the first quarter ended with Keller up 10-7.
The Indians scored first on a 27-yard Seth Wicks field goal, which came after quarterback Davis Webb guided his team as far as the Fossil Ridge 3. After Fossil Ridge answered with a 39-yard touchdown reception by Adonis Ramos, Keller scored with 1:54 left in the quarter on a 50-yard Beau Baker reception.
That’s where the competition ended. Fossil Ridge blanked Keller for the rest of the night, as Keller’s receivers failed to get open, neutralizing Webb’s impressive arm.
Fossil Ridge scored twice in the second quarter, on a 28-yard Robbie Castetter field goal and a 1-yard Jacob Gnacinski rush, before pulling away after halftime. Ceavan Bowman completed the scoring on the first possession of the fourth quarter, running 4 yards for a touchdown.
The Fossil Ridge win guarantees that the winner of Friday night’s game between Coppell and Keller Central will clinch the final 7-5A spot. It also pushes Southlake Carroll into Division I in the playoffs regardless of how it fares against Denton Guyer on Friday.
