Hebron dominant in 20-point victory against 8-5A foe Plano West
PLANO — Considering the close games that Hebron and Plano West have been involved in, Friday’s matchup promised high drama.
But Hebron broke from form with a dominant performance. The Hawks took a 14-point lead into halftime and then rode that momentum to a 37-17 victory at John Clark Stadium.
Coming off a three-point loss to Plano East, Hebron left nothing to chance against a Plano West team that had averaged 40 points in its previous three District 8-5A games.
The Hawks dominated all phases. They outgained the Wolves, 451-175, amassing 304 yards rushing and 147 yards passing. They shut down explosive running back Carlos Wiggins (36 yards on 20 carries) and allowed only three completions.
Quarterback Joseph Farley led Hebron, passing for 147 yards and one touchdown, and running 16 times for 93 yards.
Dezmond Wortham was the workhorse, rushing for 138 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown. And Braelen Evans added 64 yards rushing with touchdowns of five and 21 yards.
After Auston Anderson’s one-yard run gave Plano West a 10-3 lead with 7:15 left in the second quarter, Hebron scored three touchdowns in the final 4:57 of the first half for a 24-10 lead.
The crusher was Hebron’s final drive of the first half. They went 98 yards in 59 seconds. Evans had runs of 23 and 15 yards to set up his two-yard TD.
The Hawks forced Plano West to punt on the first possession of the second half and then drove 84 yards in 10 plays. Wortham’s 12-yard run made it 31-10 with 5:45 left in the third.
A Steven Lanz interception set up Hebron’s 33-yard drive capped by Evans’ 5-yard run. With a 37-10 lead with 3:54 left in the third quarter, the Hawks simply had to hang on.
Plano West’s only second-half score came on Wiggins’ 1-yard run with 9:54 left in the fourth.
