Week 5 3A/Others roundup: Prestonwood rallies in final seconds to beat TCA-Addison, 63-59
State champs edge TCA-Addison; Celina, Lovejoy roll to victory
ADDISON — Parker Ash threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Zach Peters with 4.7 seconds left as Prestonwood beat TCA-Addison, 63-59, on Friday.
Ash had six touchdown passes and went 23-of-46 passing for 371 yards for defending TAPPS Division I state champion Prestonwood (4-1, 2-0 TAPPS 1-I). He also ran for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Peters had eight catches for 104 yards and three touchdowns.
Tanner Snow scored five touchdowns for TCA-Addison (3-3, 1-1), and quarterback Daniel Davidson rushed for a score and completed 25 of 39 passes for 515 yards and five touchdowns. The teams combined for 1,380 yards of offense.
Celina 40, Lake Worth 12
LAKE WORTH — Freshman quarterback Nathan Elliott passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead Celina (5-0), ranked No. 1 in SportsDay’s Class 3A-2A area poll, to victory over Lake Worth (1-5).
Celina took the opening kickoff and marched 82 yards in nine plays, culminating in Elliott’s 36-yard scoring strike to Ben Thiel with 8:42 left in the first quarter. Elliott, who finished with 279 yards passing, sneaked in from a yard out with 8:58 left in the second quarter for a 14-0 Celina lead. Senior running back Jamarick Simmons, who finished with 131 yards on 16 carries, scampered in from 37 yards with 5:29 left before halftime, giving Celina a 21-0 lead at intermission.
The two teams combined for 941 yards of offense, with Celina having 531 yards and Lake Worth totaling 410 yards.
Lovejoy 46, HSAA 28
LUCAS — Zach Saffle rushed for 142 yards and ran for three scores and threw for another as Lovejoy (3-2) amassed 508 total yards.
Fort Worth Nolan 51, Fort Worth Castleberry 7
FORT WORTH — Fort Worth Nolan scored touchdowns on its first three possessions, and Joseph Prud’homme threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns.
Nolan, the No. 1 team in SportsDay’s large private schools area rankings, improved to 5-0.
Fort Worth Country Day 17, Episcopal Dallas 13
Senior quarterback Thomas Boucher found Whit Maddox for a game-winning 80-yard touchdown pass with just under five minutes remaining as Fort Worth Country Day beat Episcopal School of Dallas.
Argyle Liberty Christian 33, Bishop Lynch 21
ARGYLE — Camron Cornett scored two touchdowns as Argyle Liberty (3-2, 1-1 TAPPS 1-I) beat Bishop Lynch.
The two teams traded back-to-back kickoff returns for touchdowns. Bishop Lynch’s Kevin Huffaker had a 97-yard return with 8:31 remaining in the second quarter, briefly putting Lynch ahead 14-10. Cornett responded on the ensuing kickoff with a 93-yard touchdown return, giving Liberty the lead for the rest of the night.
Fort Worth All Saints 38, Brownwood 15
BROWNWOOD — T.J. Millweard threw for 360 yards and four touchdowns, and Charlie Reid and Brian Vaughn combined for 258 receiving yards and three TDs for Fort Worth All Saints (6-0).
St. Mark’s 56, Holland Hall 35
St. Mark’s won in Tulsa, Okla., and improved to 4-1 on the season.
