4A/3A roundup for Week 3: Jefferson snaps 36-game losing streak
Quarterback Jose Balderas scored on a 1-yard run with 26 seconds to play as Thomas Jefferson snapped a 36-game losing streak Friday night with a 19-16 victory over Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis.
Jefferson (1-3) carried a 7-0 advantage into the fourth quarter before a wild final period at Loos Stadium that featured four touchdowns and four lead changes. Aaron Garcia scored the first of his two touchdowns to give Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis (0-3) an 8-7 lead approximately 30 second into the final quarter.
Balderas answered with a 65-yard touchdown pass to James Byrd, putting Jefferson back in front. But Garcia quickly struck again with a 68-yard touchdown gallop with 2:49 remaining.
Balderas then calmly led the offense on a seven-play, 64-yard scoring drive, which gave Jefferson its first victory in more than three seasons.
CORSICANA — Corsicana scored on its first six possessions on the way to a victory over Lancaster in a District 15-4A matchup at Tiger Stadium. Corsicana senior running back Cameron Washington powered his way to 207 yards and three touchdowns.
Ranked No. 4 in The News’ 4A poll, Corsicana (4-0, 2-0) dominated with its run-oriented offense.
Lancaster, ranked No. 7, fell to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in district.

HUTCHINS — Carrollton R.L. Turner capitalized on mistakes by Wilmer-Hutchins to escape with the win on a rainy night at Wilmer-Hutchins Stadium.
R. L. Turner (1-2) scored all 21 of its points on Wilmer-Hutchins (2-1) turnovers and ended the game with a time-consuming final drive after recovering a fumble near midfield.
Piers Christian threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another to lead Woodrow Wilson (3-1) past Seagoville (1-2).
Desmond Handy caught scoring passes from Christian of 4 and 9 yards.
FRISCO — Zach Smith accounted for four touchdowns as Frisco Liberty (3-0) remained unbeaten with a 29-17 win over Royse City (0-3) at Frisco Memorial Stadium. Smith scored three times on the ground, including on a 48-yard scamper in the fourth quarter .
TERRELL — Robert Lowe Jr. rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns as Waxahachie (2-1, 1-0 District 15-4A) rolled up 573 yards of offense in a rout of Terrell (2-2, 0-2).
FORNEY— Sophomore running back Jahshawn Johnson scored both touchdowns for Ennis (2-2, 1-1) in its victory over Forney (1-3, 0-2 District 15-4A) at City Bank Stadium.
Madison (1-3) scored the game’s final 13 points to outlast Lincoln (1-3).
Jamon Brewers put Madison ahead for good with a 22-yard touchdown run. He finished with 18 carries for 89 yards.
C.J. Washington ran for 129 yards and three scores and hauled in five passes for 114 yards and another score as Brewer improved to 3-0, its best start since 2003, with a victory over Denton (1-3).
DENISON—Keaun Kinner had 127 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries as Little Elm (3-1) defeated Denison (1-3) in non-district action at Munson Stadium.
Devante’ Pullum added 122 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
THE COLONY — Running back Bryan Hammond rushed for 82 yards and three scores as The Colony (2-2) defeated North Dallas (1-2).
Running Back Thomas Hughes had 179 yards and two touchdowns to lead Molina past Conrad.
RED OAK — Steven Hicks scored three touchdowns and ran for 144 yards as Mesquite Poteet (4-0, 2-0 in District 15-4A) overcame a 7-0 deficit to overpower Red Oak (2-2, 1-1) in a steady rain at Billy Goodloe Stadium.
Roosevelt (1-2) earned its first victory of the season with a dominating defensive performance at Pleasant Grove Stadium.
Roosevelt managed 34 points despite only 67 yards of offense against Pinkston (0-2), with its defense scoring two of its touchdowns.
SEAGOVILLE — Javonte Adams rushed for 111 yards on 24 carries to lead Fort Worth Poly Tech to a come-from-behind victory over Spruce.
LAKE DALLAS — Dalyn Williams threw for six scores as Lake Dallas (4-1) defeated Sherman (2-2) at Falcon Field.
Friday marked the third consecutive game that the Falcons have scored more than 40 points.
