L.D. Bell football coach Gary Olivo retiring after six seasons; interviews expected after Christmas break

Gary Olivo is retiring after six years as football coach at Hurst L.D. Bell and 35 years of coaching.

"I'd been thinking about it for a while," Olivo said. "There was no specific reason, it just felt like it was the right time."

No replacement has been named, and athletic coordinator Vickie Griffin said candidates are still applying.

"We're trying to have something ready by the board meeting, which is January 18." Griffin said. "We'll start interviewing when we come back from Christmas break."

The Raiders went 6-5 in Olivo's final season, losing to Cedar Hill in the first round of the playoffs.

Olivo's teams were 31-32 at Bell and made the playoffs four of his six years.
