Henderson claims Class 3A Division I title; Carthage advances to Class 3A Division II state title game
ARLINGTON - Cord Fletcher recorded Henderson's ninth sack of the game as his team stopped Tyler Chapel Hill in the final minutes to secure a 28-21 win in the Class 3A Division I state championship game Friday night at Cowboys Stadium.
Two plays after the sack, Chapel Hill quarterback Avery Saenz threw incomplete on fourth down to give the ball back to Henderson, which ran out the clock and earned the first football championship in school history.
Henderson coach Dickey Meeks won his second state title - the first came as Chapel Hill's coach in 1989. Henderson (13-2) dropped from Class 4A to Class 3A in this year's UIL realignment.

Two Carthage defenders blanketed Jaxon Shipley on the last play of the game and knocked away the ball at the right pylon as time expired to seal the victory in the 3A Division II semifinal at Kincaide Stadium.
Shipley finished with 14 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown.
Carthage running back Hunter Holland rushed for 306 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries, including a 29-yard touchdown run that proved to be the game-winner with 3:41 left.
