Skyline scores 21 unanswered points to down Garland, 28-10

Skyline scored 21 points in the last 13:22 of the game to overcome Garland, 28-10, in a Class 5A Division I bidistrict playoff Friday night at Wildcat-Ram Stadium in Dallas.

Devante Kincade tossed three touchdown passes to lead Skyline, ranked No. 6 in The News' final 5A area poll.

Skyline (9-2) will meet the winner of today's game between DeSoto and Bryan in next week's area round.

Garland (7-4) led, 10-7, until Kincade found Sammy Hill for a 24-yard touchdown pass with 1:22 left in the third quarter. The touchdown was set up by a 63-yard completion to Thomas Johnson two plays earlier.

Johnson caught seven passes for 143 yards. Kincade was 12-of-18 passing for 265 yards.

With Skyline leading, 14-10, Garland drove to the Skyline 37 but Zach Anthony came up with an interception to kill the drive.

Skyline then drove 75 yards to go up by two scores on another Kincade touchdown pass, this time 26 yards to Paul Dawson with 5:11 left.

Garland's comeback attempt was thwarted when Skyline's William Barrows intercepted a fourth-down pass with four minutes to go. Skyline added one more score with 2:18 remaining when Peter Jenkins broke loose for a 26-yard touchdown run.

Garland took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Malcolm Miller scored on a 16-yard run.

Skyline answered in the second quarter when Kincade hit Rashard Samples with a 33-yard touchdown pass to tie the score.

The score stayed tied until Garland's Josh Lambert hit a 37-yard field goal with 3:29 left in the third quarter.

Garland quarterback Seth Russell kept several drives alive by rushing for 56 yards. Russell completed 13 of 25 passes for 141 yards.
