Soccer playoffs: Freshmen lead Centennial girls; Hillcrest boys win
Freshman midfielder Taryn Torres scored a goal in the 86th minute to break a tie and send Frisco Centennial to a 5-4 victory against fifth-ranked Prosper in a bi-district playoff Tuesday at Hebron High School.
Torres was one of three Centennial freshmen to score, joining Katelyn Termini and Jenna Wilt. Junior outside midfielder Michelle Lee scored twice.
Centennial, the fourth seed out of District 18-4A, advanced to face The Colony in an area playoff Friday at Hebron.
Prosper, which won the District 17-4A title, finished the season with a 17-3-2 record.
Denton Guyer 4, Azle 0: Junior Brittany Crabtree scored a goal in the second minute, and defending state champion Denton Guyer cruised to a shutout victory against Azle at Saginaw Chisholm Trail.
Crabtree, who has committed to Texas A&M, added a second goal during the 50th minute.
Also scoring goals for Guyer (15-2-3) were Auburn signee Hannah Alspach and Jasmine Heffley. Alspach scored in the 24 minute, and Heffley scored in the 30th minute to give Guyer a 3-0 halftime lead.
Guyer will play Wichita Falls Hirschi in the area round at 4 p.m. Friday at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
McKinney North 1, Frisco Liberty 0: McKinney North center midfielder Olivia Detmer rifled in a first-half goal from 20 yards, and North held on to beat Frisco Liberty at McKinney’s Ron Poe Stadium.
Hadlie Tucker assisted the goal, which advanced seventh-ranked McKinney North (15-2-0) to an area-round showdown against No. 2 Highland Park on Friday.
The shutout was the fifth in six games for McKinney North.
Frisco 9, Denison 0: Jordan Hill scored three times and added an assist as Frisco trounced Denison at Sherman High School.
Six other Frisco players scored: Maddie Barnes, Fallyn McDougal, Katelyn Harbour, Julia Lenhardt, Taylor Torres and Audrey Naughton.
Blair Thorpe chipped in three assists for Frisco (21-2-0), which advanced to face Little Elm in the area round.
Hillcrest 3, Royse City 0: Hillcrest standout Alexis Zapata scored two goals to lead the way in a bi-district victory against Royse City at Franklin Field.
Zapata, Hillcrest’s leading scorer, has 27 goals this season.
Christian Martinez also scored a goal for fifth-ranked Hillcrest (24-2-2), which advanced to face Forney at 7 p.m. Friday in an area-round matchup at Franklin Field.
Bryan Adams 6, Wylie 0: Ismael Gutierrez scored twice as Bryan Adams routed host Wylie in a bi-district playoff.
Adams, ranked 10th in the area, also got goals from Joel Martinez, Luis Morin, Miguel Torres and Martin Gonzalez.
Bryan Adams (15-3-0) will face Mesquite Poteet in the area round at 8 p.m. Friday at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
Frisco Heritage 6, McKinney North 2: Alfredo Kaegi scored two goals for Frisco Heritage, which rolled McKinney North at McKinney Boyd High School.
Alec Johnson, Emile LeSaux, Armando Tovar and Jackson Huckaby added goals for Heritage in the victory.
Heritage, which advanced to the second round for the third year in a row, will face Little Elm in an area playoff.
