Soccer playoffs roundup: Southlake Carroll, McKinney boys advance; Hebron, FM Marcus girls win
Sachse continued its winning ways in the playoffs Tuesday night thanks to a second-half goal from Haleigh Hanson in a 1-0 win over McKinney in a Class 5A Region II quarterfinal at Wylie.
Sachse (18-5-1) scored a little more than five minutes into the second half. Hanson picked off a pass close to the McKinney goal and scored from close range.
“This was a really tough match, and it really went back and forth,” Sachse coach Kristen Campbell said. “McKinney had a lot of the scoring chances in the first half, but our girls stayed with it, and we played our game in the second half.”
McKinney Boyd 2, Jesuit 1 (SO): McKinney Boyd outscored Jesuit, 9-8, in a shootout to win its Class 5A Region II quarterfinal match at Memorial Stadium in Frisco. Boyd (18-4-3) lost to Jesuit in last year’s quarterfinals in an eight-round shootout. On Tuesday night, Boyd’s Connor Kennedy put away the last try in the shootout for the win while goalkeeper Evan Davies stopped Jesuit’s last shot. Jesuit led 1-0 on a first-half goal by Chris Mathis. Boyd scored in the second half when a header by Ryan Trayner bounced off a Jesuit defender and into the goal.

Hebron 1, Grapevine 0: Evan Pipkin scored the game’s only goal, and Hebron advanced with a victory over Grapevine in a Class 5A Region I quarterfinal match at Denton. Hebron (17-3-3) got Pipken’s goal midway through the opening half off an assist by Ellen Starnes. Solid second-half play in the midfield helped ensure the goal stood up.
