Boys basketball playoff roundup: Frisco Heritage's debut not done yet

State’s No. 8 4A team reaches region quarters in first playoff appearance

Making its first playoff appearance in its fourth season of varsity basketball, Frisco Heritage advanced to the Class 4A Region II quarterfinals with a 73-62 win over Woodrow Wilson on Friday.

Heritage (26-3), ranked eighth in the state, had only five players score. But they all scored in double figures, led by Jordan Box with 19 points and Wesley Franklin with 16.

Duncanville 54, Coppell 44 (OT): DJ Wallace scored 23 points as Duncanville rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit in 5A Region I.

Coppell (22-13), the No. 4 seed from District 5-5A, collapsed its defense on Duncanville star Omar Sherman and held the Miami signee to two points. But led by Wallace and Matthew McQuaid (19 points), Duncanville (20-11) advanced to play 5-5A champion Hebron in a regional quarterfinal.

Plano West 75, Longview 65 (OT): Avery Johnson Jr. scored 11 of his 25 points in overtime as the state's eighth-ranked team advanced to the 5A Region II quarterfinals to play Richardson Berkner. D.J. Hogg added 18 points, and Plano West (22-6) went 9-for-10 from the free throw line in overtime.

DeSoto 63, Lewisville 49: Takedrick Brown scored 19 points and Baylor signee Terry Maston added 16 for the state's second-ranked 5A team. DeSoto (28-3) will next play 11th-ranked Killeen Harker Heights, which beat Flower Mound Marcus, 63-62 in overtime.

Garland Lakeview 62, Plano East 47: Charles Beauregard scored 24 points as District 11-5A top seed Lakeview (23-7) advanced to play Allen in a 5A Region II quarterfinal. Allen beat District 12-5A champion Mesquite, 49-30.

Lancaster 70, Wylie 54: Antwon Portley scored 22 points, and Elijah Thomas had 17 points and 14 rebounds for Lancaster (29-4), the state's second-ranked 4A team. Lancaster next plays Whitehouse, which beat Lovejoy, 58-47.

South Oak Cliff 109, Carrollton Newman Smith 90: The state's fifth-ranked 4A team scored 69 points in the second half after trailing Newman Smith 46-40 at halftime.

Mr Dawson scored 21 points to lead five players in double figures for SOC (26-6). No. 17 Lincoln will face SOC in a 4A Region II quarterfinal after beating Prosper, 83-62, behind 29 points from Kansas football signee Derrick Neal.

Mansfield Lake Ridge 67, McKinney North 50: Air Force pledge Jacob Van scored 23 points as Lake Ridge reached the 4A Region II quarterfinals in its first playoff appearance. Lake Ridge plays Mansfield Summit next.

Madison 80, Carrollton Ranchview 50: Admon Gilder scored 15 points as the defending 3A state champion moved on to play District 11-3A rival Wilmer-Hutchins.

Frisco Lone Star 59, Triple A Academy 58: Garelle Yeager scored on a layup with two seconds left off a pass from Preston Schilling as Lone Star beat Triple A, the state's fourth-ranked 3A team and last season's Class A Division I state champion.
