Hebron boys coach Mark Bishop earned his 400th career win in dramatic style.
Justin Montgomery hit a 3-pointer with eight seconds left in the second overtime to give Hebron a 41-39 win over Flower Mound in the District 5-5A opener for both teams. That came after Hebron’s Connor McClenaghan banked in an 8-footer at the buzzer in the first overtime to tie it.
Big D for Liberty
Abilene Christian signee Alana Aguirre had scored 63 points in her last two games for the Frisco Wakeland girls. But Frisco Liberty, ranked 11th in the state in 4A, held the area’s leading 4A scorer to 15 points and beat Wakeland, 38-26. North Texas signee Bria Frierson scored 14 for Liberty (17-3, 7-0 in 9-4A).
Tied up in 9-5A
Ben Nakwaasah scored all 15 of his points in the second half, and Davon Johnson had 15 rebounds as the Richardson boys beat Skyline, 60-43. Richardson (11-8, 5-0) is tied with Richardson Berkner for first in 9-5A and will host Berkner on Tuesday.
The DeSoto boys, No. 3 in the state in 5A, beat Duncanville, 52-40, knocking Duncanville out of a tie for first in 7-5A. DeSoto is tied for first with South Grand Prairie and Grand Prairie. … Bradley Mason scored 18 to lead the Frisco boys to a 67-63 win over Prosper, the state’s No. 22 4A team. … The Sunnyvale girls, ranked No. 1 in the state in 2A, stayed undefeated with a 55-42 win vs. Gunter.
Elbert Robinson, Garland Lakeview, post: The LSU signee returned after being sidelined by a sprained ankle and scored 19 points as Lakeview (14-6, 4-0) beat Rowlett, 80-44, and took over first place in District 11-5A.
Emmanuel, Nzekwesi, Trophy Club Byron Nelson, forward: Had 19 points and 15 rebounds as Byron Nelson (15-6, 4-1) beat Fort Worth Brewer, 66-38. Byron Nelson and Brewer entered the game as part of a four-way tie for first in District 5-4A.
Jeremy Combs, Carter, center: The North Texas signee scored 33 points in a 69-60 win vs. Seagoville.
Austin Grandstaff, Rockwall, guard: The Oklahoma State pledge scored 29 in a 66-61 win vs. Longview.
Michael Mayhew, Flower Mound Marcus, guard: Scored 19 points as Marcus, the No. 9 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings, beat No. 8 Coppell, 51-42.
Michael Douglas, Sachse: Scored on a putback at the buzzer to give Sachse a 55-53 win vs. Naaman Forest.
Tory Jacobs, Irving MacArthur, guard/forward: The Minnesota signee scored 18 points to lead MacArthur (16-5, 5-2) to a 54-51 win over Hurst L.D. Bell, the state’s 21st-ranked 5A team. L.D. Bell (18-2, 6-1) fell into a tie for first with Euless Trinity in District 6-5A.
Alexis Rene, Sachse, guard/forward: Scored 19 points as Sachse beat Garland Naaman Forest, 47-41, and gained sole possession of first in 11-5A.
Jaileen Thomas, Richardson Berkner, guard: Scored 30 points in a 69-38 win vs. W.T. White. She has 91 points in her last three games.
Alexxus Gilbert, Bryan Adams, guard: Scored 19 points as the state’s 13th-ranked 4A team beat Lincoln, 64-55, in a battle for first in 12-4A. Alisha Washington scored 31 for Lincoln.
Taylee Alexander, Rowlett, post: Had 23 points and 15 rebounds in a 69-68 overtime win over Garland Lakeview. Rowlett’s Taylor Dupuy made a layup in the final seconds of regulation to force OT, then Lydia Williams’ short jumper with less than 10 seconds left won it.
Nick Babb, Arlington Martin: The Arkansas signee scored 15 as Martin beat Arlington Lamar, 57-42, and remained tied with Arlington Bowie for first place in District 3-5A.
Tasia Foman, Duncanville: The Texas signee scored 25 points as the state’s top-ranked 5A team beat DeSoto, 88-38, and extended its winning streak to 92 games.
30: Points scored by Kessha Bracy for the Triple A Academy girls in an 84-26 win over Arlington Summit International Prep. Triple A is ranked No. 7 in the state in Class A Division I.
29: Points scored by Chris Washington for Arlington Sam Houston in a 59-57 loss to Arlington Bowie, the state’s 19th-ranked 5A boys team.
7: Three-pointers made by Ellen Baker for the Rockwall girls in a 51-36 victory against Longview. Baker finished with 23 points.
