Report: Five-star Kimball G Keith Frazier to commit to Texas Tech over SMU, delay his announcement

SportsDay’s 2013 boys basketball player of the year Keith Frazier cancelled a press conference scheduled for Thursday, delaying his college announcement until after the McDonald’s All-American game, according to Dallas Showtyme director Erven Davis.

Frazier – who led Kimball to the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A final this season – was slated to announce his decision at 2:30 p.m. at Crockett Middle School in Irving, choosing from Texas Tech and SMU. Texas A&M also might have been in the mix.

"I just want to be 100 percent sure,” Frazier told ESPN’s Reggie Rankin. “I only want to make this decision once."

According to a report from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Frazier told Tech officials on Wednesday that he wanted to commit to the university. That commitment, however, could perhaps hinge on whether Tech decided to retain interim coach Chris Walker – Frazier’s primary recruiter to Lubbock.

Davis, Frazier’s mentor and head of his AAU team, dismissed that suggestion, saying via text message that the McDonald’s All-American wasn’t waiting on Tech’s coaching hire, but “just wasn’t comfortable to make [his] decision yet.”

Frazier averaged 23.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game during his senior season, making 42 percent of his 3-point attempts. He’s ranked No. 22 nationally by
