UIL boys state tournament roundup: Brock reaches 2A championship game

AUSTIN — Tre Ewell scored 16 points, and Brock rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to beat Idalou, 56-51, in a Class 2A state semifinal Friday at the Frank Erwin Center.

Brock (32-6) will face White Oak (36-1) in Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. title game. It will be a rematch of last year’s state championship game, won by White Oak, 61-53.

Idalou (34-4), which was in the state tournament for the fourth consecutive season, had a 40-24 rebounding edge but shot just 36.5 percent from the field. Idalou lost in the semifinals for the second straight year after winning the 2A title in 2011.

Idalou cut Brock’s lead to 50-48 with 43 seconds remaining, but Bailey Cockburn and Ewell combined to go 6-for-6 from the free throw line the rest of the way to give Brock the win.
