Former Rockwall star guard Austin Grandstaff now at Plano West, but ‘unlikely’ to be eligible for playoffs

Austin Grandstaff, who played the first half of the basketball season at Rockwall before transferring to a prep school in West Virginia, is now at Plano West and trying to gain eligibility for the playoffs.

Wes Grandstaff, Austin’s father, said Thursday that everything must be approved by Saturday and said that it’s “unlikely.”

Grandstaff, a sophomore point guard who is one of the nation’s top recruits in the Class of 2015, hasn’t been ruled eligible by the district executive committee and also needs approval of a waiver that allows his residence to be in Plano. His parents are separated, but not divorced, and his father lives in the Plano West attendance zone and his mother lives in the Rockwall zone.

Grandstaff started at Huntington Prep in January. But he quickly got homesick, his father said, and returned to Texas and enrolled at Plano West on Jan. 30.
