Report: DISD launching investigation into residency issues of several Kimball basketball players
Less than a week after WFAA raised questions about basketball star Keith Frazier's transfer from Irving to Kimball, the Dallas Independent School District is looking into residency issues of several Kimball basketball players, according to a report by WFAA.
"DISD is launching an investigation into evidence presented by News 8 re: alleged cheating by Kimball H.S. to win state title," WFAA's Brett Shipp tweeted Monday.
WFAA later reported that DISD has launched an internal investigation centered around Kimball's basketball team, including residency issues of several Kimball basketball players.
The station's original investigation last week centered on the details surrounding Frazier's transfer over the fall, when Frazier's mother reportedly told the District 11-4A executive committee that the two were moving from Irving because the rent on their federally subsidized home was increasing. But the lease, according to the WFAA report, showed that the rent was frozen.
Frazier, one of the top recruits in the nation, averaged 21.7 pounds, 8.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists last season while helping Kimball to a second-straight Class 4A championship.
If the UIL determines that a rule was broken, Kimball could be forced to forfeit its state title.
"The range of penalties could be anything from a reprimand to disqualification," UIL athletic director Mark Cousins said last week.
